SLET or the State Level Eligibility Test is a test conducted to recruit Lecturers and Assistant Professors in various colleges and some universities all over the country. The test is conducted separately in different states, and is conducted in the English language and the state’s regional language. It is mandatory to pass the cutoff percentage in this test if one wishes to get a Lectureship in India. The test is overseen by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

SLET Eligibility

Like every other working body, the UGC and NTA have set down specific rules and regulations for anyone who wishes to take the test. If a candidate fulfills all the requirements stated by the board, only then they will be allowed to take the test.

Some of the standard SLET eligibility criteria include:-

  1. Age
  2. Educational Qualification
  3. Work Experience
  4. Nationality
  5. No.of Attempts

Let us now look into the specific rules laid in each of the criteria.

  1. Age

As per the latest SLET eligibility criteria laid down by the regulating body, there is no age limit for candidates who wish to take the test. Any aspirant who fulfills all the other eligibility marks set by the government irrespective of their age will be allowed to take the test.

  1. Educational Qualification

To be eligible for appearing in the SLET exam, a candidate must possess a Master’s degree from any government-recognized university, college, or educational institution of India.

Apart from the Master’s degree, a candidate must secure a minimum of 55 percent in their final examinations to be eligible to take the SLET test.

A candidate with a Ph.D. degree will have an additional advantage of minimum percentage relaxation of 5%.

If the applicant belongs to OBC, SC, ST, or PWD categories, they will have a percentage relaxation by 5, i.e., they will be eligible to take the SLET with a minimum pass percentage of 50.

Candidates in the final year of their Master’s degree or who are preparing for their final semester exams are also eligible to write the SLET.

  1. Work Experience

As per the latest SLET eligibility, there is no mandatory work experience requirement for any candidate. It states that any candidate fulfilling the eligibility criteria can take the test with or without any work experience.

  1. Nationality

Any candidate who wishes to take the test must be a citizen of India and prove the same. Applicants must provide relevant documents and ID proof.

  1. No.of Attempts

As per the latest SLET eligibility guidelines, there is no bar for a candidate on how many times they can take the test. 

SLET Cutoff

The candidates must score at least the cutoff percentage in the test to pass. The previous year subject-wise SLET cutoff for the SLET is as follows:
