OLED Full Form

OLED full form organic light emitting diodes is a kind of led (light emitting diodes) with an emissive electroluminescent layer. It is made of organic compounds. Organic light emitting diodes consist of a layer made of polymers which emit a red, green or blue light when a voltage is applied.

Organic light emitting diodes can be used in various ways. They are commonly used to create flexible and transparent displays. There are different types of oleds available in the market nowadays. Some of them are listed below:

  • Curved OLED displays, which are placed on non-flat surfaces
  • Foldable OLEDs and rollable OLEDs which can be used to create new mobile devices etc.
  • Wearable OLEDs, like e-tattoos or skin patches
  • Transparent OLEDs embedded in windows or car windshields

Apart from the above mentioned organic light emitting diodes, there are many more that exist.

Organic light emitting diodes are organic as they are composed of organic compounds like hydrogen and carbon. Oleds do not contain any bad compounds and thus are made of real green technology.

OLED full form or Organic light emitting diodes are used in various devices such as mobile phones, televisions, digital cameras, VR headsets, tablets, laptops and much more. OLED displays are in high demand these days. Companies prefer organic light emitting diodes over lcds as they decrease prices. Moreover, organic light emitting diode displays are thin, efficient, flexible and bright and therefore are used in mobile phones.

OLED televisions

Organic light emitting diode televisions offer the best image quality to the customers. It has been predicted that with the help of oleds we will be able to see large rollable and transparent television in the future.

OLED white lightings

OLED full form or Organic light emitting diodes are used to create the best lights. Oleds are used in making lights as they offer to diffuse area lighting and are flexible, efficient, light, thin, transparent, color-tunable and provide many more features. OLEDs enable new designs and these devices emit healthier light compared to CFLs and LED lighting devices.

LCD vs OLED

There are two major types of display technologies. They are LCD and OLED.

LCD stands for Liquid crystal display whereas OLED full form is Organic light emitting diode. Both the devices serve the same purpose but they emit light differently. LCDs rely on a backlight to illuminate their liquid crystals, while OLEDs emit light through individual organic compounds like carbon and hydrogen.

LCDs are comparatively cheaper and more affordable than the organic light emitting diodes. They tend to consume less power, provide good quality images, and offer better visibility in sunlight.

Whereas, Organic light emitting diodes offer wider viewing angles and faster refresh rates than LCDs.

In order to differentiate between LCDs and OLEDs, it is important to keep certain factors in mind. One of the most crucial factors is to compare the image quality of both the devices. OLED displays are famous for their ability to deliver deep black levels, which can significantly enhance the contrast ratio of the picture. On the other hand, LCD displays use a backlight to illuminate their pixels, which can result in  lighter black levels and less contrast.

Another important factor to keep in mind while comparing liquid crystal display and organic light emitting diodes is color accuracy and saturation. OLEDs tend to offer wider color gamut than LCDs, meaning they can display more accurate colors. Using OLEDs over LCDs can result in a more vibrant and lifelike image.

Last but not the least is to compare the viewing angles of both the devices. Organic light emitting diodes or OLED full form have the best viewing angle which enables the picture quality to remain consistent regardless of the angle from which you’re viewing the screen.

Above mentioned information includes some of the factors that you must keep in mind while comparing which among both the devices you should choose. There are a few things that you must keep in mind about OLEDs while making the decision. The things to remember are summed up below:

  • OLED displays offer deep black levels and high contrast ratios.
  • OLED displays generally have a wider color gamut than LCDs.
  • OLED displays have nearly perfect viewing angles.

Apart from this, while making the choice between OLEDs and LCDs you must gather a good amount of information about both the devices and make a pros and cons list out of it.
