Upon clearing stage 1 of the REET exam, the candidate proceeds to the interview round, where they are face to face with an interviewer. In this stage, the interviewer asks subject-relevant and general class management questions of the candidate and assesses their knowledge, sincerity, and confidence.

REET Exam Pattern

The REET exam is conducted in two levels; aspirants can apply for either one or both. Level I is conducted for candidates who wish to apply for the posts of primary teachers (classes I to V), and Level II is conducted for those aspirants who wish to get recruited as upper primary teachers (classes VI to VIII).

Level I – Primary Teachers

  • The Level I exam of REET has five subject sections that a candidate has to prepare for. These five subjects are Language I (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Urdu, and Punjabi), Language II (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Urdu, and Punjabi), Child Development & Pedagogy, Maths, and Environmental Sciences.
  • Every subject section comprises 30 questions.

  • No negative marks are allotted for incorrect answers.
  • The total time for the entire exam of REET (either level) is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • The REET exam pattern includes only multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
  • The language of the question paper is both English and Hindi.

Level II – Upper Primary Teachers

  • The Level II exam pattern of REET requires candidates to prepare for four subjects. These subjects are Mathematics & Science, Language I (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Gujarati, Urdu, and Punjabi), Child Development & Pedagogy, and Language II (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Urdu, and Punjabi).
  • The Mathematics & Science subject sections for the exam consist of 60 questions, and the other three subject sections comprise 30 questions each.
  • Each question carries 1 mark.
  • A maximum of 150 marks can be allotted to the candidate who attempts every question and answers it correctly.
  • No negative marks are allotted for an incorrect answer in the REET exam pattern.
