How to get KTET Certificate

What is KTET?

KTET (Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test) is conducted by the Kerala Board of Education once every year. With many Government schools in the state, KTET aims to recruit the best teachers to provide proper education to children in schools approved by the Department of General Education of the Kerala Government.

The KTET certificate is mandatory to get appointed as a teacher in government schools in Kerala. It ensures that the teaching aspirants possess essential skills and aptitude to face the challenges of teaching at all levels including, primary, upper primary and high-school levels.

Pareeksha Bhavan, Kerala, conducts KTET under the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) guidelines. The exam also conforms with the rules, regulations, and policies laid down by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

All the information and announcements related to KTET can be found on their official website.

How to Get the KTET Certificate?

Teaching aspirants in Kerala can get the KTET certificate by qualifying for the KTET exam. All the aspects related to the KTET exam and procedure of getting the KTET certificate are explained below:

  1. Eligibility for the KTET exam

KTET is held in four categories for various roles in Lower Primary, Upper Primary, and High-school classes. These categories are as follows:

  • Criteria for Category I – Lower Primary Classes
  • Criteria for Category II – Upper Primary Classes
  • Criteria for Category III – High School Classes
  • Criteria for Category IV – Language teachers (Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu), Specialist teacher (Art and Craft), Physical Education

All the candidates must be clear about the categories and mention the subjects they are well-versed in within the application form. Authorities give no age restriction for applying for KTET. However, there are certain criteria different for every category that candidates must meet to be eligible to appear for KTET. The minimum eligibility criteria for each category can be found here or on the KTET official website.

The syllabus for KTET is also decided by the Pareeksha Bhavan’s Office of Commissioner for Government Examinations. It will enable the candidates to prepare for the exam and cover all the topics from which questions will be asked.

  1. Applying for the KTET exam

The candidates who want to apply for KTET must fill out the Kerala TET Online Application Form on their official website and submit it by the deadline. Candidates can select their choice of test center while filling the application form and the examination fees online via credit/debit card, net banking, or by Challan. The receipt of the payments or Challan is mandatory, along with a copy of the required certificates with the online application form. The Admit Card for the examination is uploaded on the website, and candidates can download it by entering their ID, application number, etc.

The KTET exam is conducted offline and is for 150 minutes for all the categories. However, the exam pattern is different for each category.

  1. Qualifying for KTET exam

A score of 60% or more is required for candidates to be considered ‘KTET qualified’ or ‘KTET passed’ for all categories. The exam has no negative marking. However, the qualifying percentage is 55% for OBCs, SC/ST, and Physically Challenged candidates.

First, the answer keys are declared on the official website of Kerala Pareeksha Bhawan. After 5 days, the official KTET results are released on the website. After that, candidates can check their results through their registration number.

  1. Get the Award of certificate

After the results, qualified candidates will get a certificate from Secretary Pareeksha Bhawan, Poojappura (Thiruvananthapuram), on behalf of the Government of Kerala. This certificate is called the Award of Certificate.

The qualified candidates have to upload all the required original documents on the website for verification by the District Education Officer. The date of submission is intimated on the website and through media. Post verification, the candidates are given the KTET certificate.

Validity of KTET Certificate

As announced by the Education Minister on June 3, 2021, all KTET results from 2011 onwards will have validity for a lifetime. The KTET certificate will also have lifetime validity for qualified candidates. Earlier, the validity was for seven years only.

However, candidates can give the KTET exam again to improve their scores and attempt unlimited times without restrictions.

Candidates with KTET certificates are entitled to apply for jobs in both public and private schools. Candidates will also be required to appear for a personal interview as the final step for recruitment for a teaching position.
