IIT Delhi started its journey as College of Engineering in Delhi. However, later it was declared as an institute of national importance. That is when the College of Engineering became IIT Delhi. As a part of the process, the college was granted the status of a Deemed University. That means the college can decide its own academic policy, set exam patterns, and award its own degree.
IIT Delhi is among the oldest IITs in the country. Moreover, it has a robust academic reputation. The institute has been ranked 2 for engineering and holds the fifth position for management studies by NIRF 2021. Furthermore, the institute offers 85 courses at UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels.
Apart from providing academic excellence, the institute also provides an excellent campus life to students. The sprawling campus is spread over an area of 325 acres. Moreover, it has two extended campuses in Sonepat and Jhajjar. The maximum student intake for IIT Delhi stands at 7,784 students.
Students need to qualify the minimum criteria to secure a seat in the institute. For admission in B.tech, students must pass a 10+2 examination from a recognized board with a minimum of 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile. Also, they need to qualify for JEE Advanced and JoSAA counseling. Students can also participate in dual degree programs that award Btech+Mtech degrees.
The campus of the institute is equipped with an advanced library. The library system comprises a central and departmental library where students can get access to the latest learning materials.
