TET Exam – Brief Background And History
In an effort to elevate teaching standards, the Government of India introduced the TET Exam in the year 2011. Previously employed teachers were expected to clear the examination within a two-year window. The TET Exam aims to meet the objectives of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. The RTE Act ensures free and compulsory education of Indian children aged between 6 – 14 years. Both central and state-wise TET Exams are conducted for teaching aspirants and candidates throughout the country.
Tripura TET Exam
- The Tripura TET Exam is conducted by the TRBT or Teachers Recruitment Board, Tripura, to decide eligibility standards of school teachers in the region.
- The validity period of the Tripura TET lasts for 7 years, after which teachers must reappear for the examination.
- The Tripura TET is provisional in nature, meaning it does not guarantee jobs at various state schools. Teaching aspirants must fulfil the necessary selection procedures of respective schools to secure a job appointment.
Tripura TET Eligibility Criteria
- It is mandatory for candidates appearing for the TET Exam to have passed standard 12 with a minimum of 50% marks.
- Candidates applying only for Paper 2 of the Tripura TET are expected to have passed Graduation from a UGC-recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks.
- The candidate’s age must not exceed 40 years.
- Reserved category candidates such as SC/ ST/ PH are liable for 5% relaxation on aggregate marks. Aspirants eligible for reservation can undertake the Tripura TET in Kokborok and Bengali languages.
- Candidates with more than 40% disability may apply for a scribe.
Tripura TET Examination Format
- The Tripura TET is a two-paper examination conducted and organized once a year by The Teacher’s Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT). Aspirants who wish to teach standards 1 – 5 appear for Paper 1, and those who wish to teach standards 6 – 8 appear for Paper 2.
- Clearing the Tripura TET entails a 150-minute long offline examination conducted separately for undergraduate and graduate-level candidates.
- The Eligibility Test will contain multiple-choice questions or objective-based questions. Aspirants are expected to darken the correct answer out of the total responses available on an OMR or Optical Mark Reader sheet.
- The Tripura TET examination is only conducted in the English language.
- It is mandatory for candidates appearing for Paper 1 to attempt all questions of the Tripura TET. Candidates appearing for Paper 2 have a choice to attempt questions from either Group A or Group B.
- The Tripura TET marking scheme awards 1 mark for every correct response with no negative marking provision.
Tripura TET Process
- Candidates are required to fill a Tripura TET Application Form.
- After successfully applying for the TET Exam, candidates must download their Admit Card from the official website.
- Securing the printed copy of the Tripura TET Admit Card will permit you to appear for the offline examination at allotted centers.
- Candidates can find the Tripura TET exam result on the official website of TRBT. Selected aspirants are awarded the TET certificate, after which they can take up jobs in Tripura state schools.
- It is compulsory for the candidate to possess a Tripura-based domicile certificate.

Tripura TET Scope And Subjects
The subjects of the Tripura TET, Paper 1 are as follows:

Each of the above-mentioned subjects carries 30 multiple choice questions, adding up to 150 total marks.
