Conference

A conference is a meeting of people to discuss a particular topic. It is completely different from a convention, symposium, and colloquia. However, even though it differs from them in terms of size and purpose, the term can be used to cover the general concept. At a conference, ideas are thrown around and new information is exchanged between experts. The purpose of a conference can be any of the following:

  • It may be a gathering of academicians or scientists, where a workshop is conducted or research findings are presented.
  • It can be held for people who are working in the same company or industry where they can get together and discuss new trends and opportunities related to their business.
  • It can also be take place on a larger scale. Other than the businessmen, there are members of the public who might want to network with vendors and make new connections.

Most conferences have more than one keynote speaker, whose responsibility will be to deliver the keynote speech. Keynote speeches are common occurrences at academic and business conferences. They are generally eminent personalities in their respective field and their presence is intended to attract more people to attend the conference.
