IGIMS

IGIMS stands for Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences. It is an Institute that comes under the State Legislature Act, Government of India. It was established on the 19th of November 1983 in the form of an autonomous organization along the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. The estimated budget was around a hundred and ten crore rupees which were later revised to a hundred and thirty-three crores. It is one of the main health care institutions to come up in the state of Bihar. 

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences is the only super specialty institute located in the state of Bihar and tops the hierarchy in terms of patient referral chain. The IGIMS offers education in medicine and conducts several health and medical research in Bihar. It received affiliation to be a medical college from the MCI in September 2011 and today has a hundred and twenty recognized MBBS seats as well as the highest number of super-specialty seats among medical colleges in Bihar.

It is recognized to offer a degree of MD, MBBS, MS, M.Ch, DNB, DM, Ph.D., and additionally also paramedical degrees.

The entire medical college and hospital campus is spread over a sprawling area of a hundred and thirty-one acres. The hospital is proposed to have two thousand beds in the upcoming years. At present, there are almost a thousand and seventy beds present.
