Direct Instruction

As the name suggests, Direct Instruction means giving instructions face-to-face without any medium. It’s called a teacher-directed teaching method, or traditional classroom teaching method, where the teacher teaches using the blackboard.

Understand and digitize school operations with Teachmint and its features like the admission management system for efficient school management.

Two principles guide the direct instruction method. The first one is to teach correctly, leading to effective learning, irrespective of the teacher’s backstory and past performance. The second is to provide required and effective study material and correct presentation techniques to lead to successful teaching.

The direct instruction method also includes some steps to provide an effective teaching method. The first step is to introduce the students to the new chapter by getting their attention and tapping on their prior knowledge.

The second step is to not confuse the learner with lots of information. Be very precise and in order while delivering the information so that students can absorb the information patiently.

The third step is to practice together, so the teacher can correct the student wherever necessary, and the student can ask the doubt wherever required.

The fourth step is to use corrective and feedback steps. It’s important to give feedback for the student’s betterment and correct them whenever they are wrong or wrongly understand the concept.

The last step is to let students do independent practice using information, skill, and past knowledge. After that, review their knowledge by testing them, asking questions and making sure they grasp every concept before moving towards a new lesson.
