Sandeep Pushkarna Personal Notes, For My Unborn Daughter, Long question (300-350 words), , Ans. The poem'For My Unborn Daughter’ is a mother's anguish for her unborn daughter. Her, heart is full of pain and guilt of foeticide. She lies awake at night and tells her husband in her, mind that he is happy with the birth of a son and sleeps too closely to him , loves him dearly ,, but killed the daughter. In her anger, mother compares the son to a pot of honey that will be a, blessing to the whole family and the ancestors as well., , She also tells her husband that her unborn daughter still haunts her. She comes as a bulbul, in the midnight and requests to be kept safe in the mother's womb because she feels that, mother's womb will be a safe place. But ironically mother's womb is not safe because the, daughter was killed in the mother's womb itself. This daughter has been killed so many times, before birth but she still wants to take birth . She is very resilient and persistent., , People kill daughters before birth because they prefer sons believing that sons will take, care of the family in old age and will also earn for them. Moreover a son will carry forward the, family name ., , Fowlers in this poem who are not happy with the birth of a girl. So, they kill the girl in the foetus., These fowlers / people believe that a girl will bring misfortune to the family. Moreover, she will, always be a burden on the family. Some of them believe that a girl has to go to another family, after marriage and her dowry will have to be paid. So, they think it better to kill her before birth, and thus commit the crime of female foeticide., , The poetess Rekha has compared the son to a pot of honey to show how important a son is to, his father. Pot of honey oozes honey, it is sweet and attract a lot of people. Everyone likes, honey.
