Answer the following questions:, .i) What did the Greeks do when Helen was stolen?, Ans: The Greeks asked the people of Troy to send back Helen but when they refused, the, Greeks declared war against them., ii) What was the plan of Odysseus for taking Troy?, Ans: Odysseus came up with a clever plan to build a big horse,as big as a house inside which, some of the brave soldiers would hide. Then they would pack up their belongings and pretend, to sail away. The Trojans would wheel the horse into the city. After the Trojans had gone to, bed, the soldiers inside would climb out of the horse and attack the soldiers of Troy. The, gates would be opened to let in the rest of the army who had sailed back under the cover of, night., iii) Why did the Trojans do when they found the wooden horse?, Ans: The Trojans were at first amazed to see the big horse. When they realised that the horse, was built by the Greeks as an offering to Goddess Athene, the Trojans brought the horse into, the city by breaking down the walls by the gate to let it through., iv) How did Sinon explain why the Greeks left the wooden horse?, Ans: Sinon explained that the Greeks were tired fighting for ten years and they wanted to go, back home to their families. v) What happened in Troy when darkness came?, Ans: At night, after the Trojans had gone to bed, Sinon opened the doorside of the wooden, horse. The Greek soldiers crept out and opened the city gates to let in their friends who had, sailed back under the cover of night. Then with a great shout, they attacked their sleeping, enemies., vi) How did the Greeks conquer Troy?, Ans: The Greeks followed a stratagem proposed by the cunning Odysseus: pretending to, withdraw and lift the siege, they left a large wooden horse apparently as an offering to the, Goddess Athene. After the horse had been drawn into the city, concealed warriors emerged, from its hollow body at night to open the gates to the Greeks, who had sailed back under the, cover of night. They attacked the Trojans and finally conquered Troy., vii) What is the part played by Sinon in conquering the Troy?, Ans: Sinon pretended to have been left behind by the Greeks. He had agreed to stay and tell, the Trojans what the Greeks wanted them to think., viii) What did the Trojans when do with the wooden horse?, Ans: The Trojans were amazed but they dragged and brought the horse in their city by, breaking down the walls by the gate to let it through., ix) How did the Greek soldiers come back to sea-shore?, Ans: The Greek pretended to leave but they sailed back to Troy again under the cover of, darkness., x) What did the king Menelaus do after the war was over?, Ans: After the war was over king Menelaus took his beautiful wife Helen back to Sparta with, him to be his queen again.
