An American poet, playwright, editor and author of many children’s stories., He loved children and nature., So most of his writings revolve around nature, children or anything that is connected to childhood, for he knows exactly what a child would like., ABOUT THE POEM:, Poem portrays the secret beauty of nature which often goes unnoticed by the humans., The poet suggests we take a closer look for it and it will be right in front of our eyes., It talks about what you may see in a meadow and how to find beauty in it., It talks about how meadow is a home of homes (burrow, nests, ant hill etc.)., The speaker tells us there are many surprise beauty lying there in the meadow right in front of our eyes, we just have to be open minded and be ready to explore those beauty., How to find/look for it? By looking closely through the velvety soft grass and listening attentively (sounds of birds, brook, rustle of leaves, etc.)., DICTIONARY:, MEADOWS: a piece of grassland., BROOK: a small stream., BUTTERCUP: A yellow coloured flower that is shaped as a cup., DANDELION: a widely distributed weed of the daisy family, with a rosette of leaves and large bright yellow flowers followed by globular heads of seeds with downy tufts., FUZZY: Having frizzy/fur like texture (referring to the frizzy texture of the dandelion heads)., VELVET GRASS: soft grass., DRINKING STRAWS: Butterflies suck the nectar with a long flexible tube like straw that is the butterfly's tongue; it is described as a drinking straw in the poem., NECTAR: a sugary fluid secreted within flowers/the juice of a flower which is sweet in taste often attracts the bees and butterflies.
