Give an, , example of a food chain., , Ans : All living things are a part of some food chain.A food chain shows how, each living things gets its food. Food chains use arrows which mean' is eaten by’ ., Each link in the chain is food for the next link. A food chain always starts with, plant life and ends with an animal. For example: a deer eats leaf, a tiger eats the, deer., 2. Why is using insecticides harmful?, Ans: Insecticides are used to kill insects but when birds and frogs eat these insects, it poisons them. Insecticides are also absorbed by plants and get stored in fruits, and vegetables. When we eat these fruits and vegetables we also get poisoned., 3. Illustrate with an example how there is interdependence in nature., Ans: when there are too many deer , there will be insufficient trees and shrubs for, all of them to eat. Many deer will starve and die. The presence of fewer deer, would give the trees more time to grow to maturity and multiply. But this would, also mean less food available for the lions to eat. Therefore some lions will starve, to death. When there are fewer lions, the deer population will increase ., 4. Why do people kill wild animals?, Ans : Wild animals are killed for their fur, skin, oil, bones, horns, teeth and other, parts. These are sold for a high price. Polar bears are killed for their fur. Elephants, are killed for their tusks and rhinos for their horns. Tigers , deer, snakes and, crocodiles are killed for their skin. Whales are killed for oil used in face creams., 5. What is the purpose of wildlife sanctuaries and national parks?, Ans: National parks and wildlife sanctuaries are set up by our Government to try, to save our forests and wildlife. Felling of trees and killing of wildlife is not, permitted in these forests.

6. How are domestic animals useful to us?, Ans : Domestic animals are useful to us in many ways. Some, like the dog, provide, companionship and guard our house and guide the blind. Some others like hens,, cows and buffaloes provide us food. Bullocks and oxen plough our fields, pull carts, and transport loads. Their solid waste is used as manure. Some of the animals like, cows, sheep and camels provide us leather and wool., 7. List three products that we get from animals., Ans: Animals like cows ,goats and buffaloes provide us milk from which a number, of products like sweets, ghee, butter , milk and cheese are made. Chicken, goat, and sheep are reared for their meat. The hair of sheep, goat and camel are used, to make wool. We use this wool to make shawls ,blankets , carpets and other, warm clothes. We use the skin of dead animals such as crocodiles, buffaloes,, cows, camels and snakes to make leather for bags, shoes and countless other, useful articles.
