LESSON, What is Social Responsibility?, Social responsibility is a company’s gesture of concern and commitment to, fulfill the economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibilities to its, stakeholders towards society’s sustainability and development., Companies should not only look after their interest but must recognize that, they belong to a community that is expected to reciprocate responsible participation., Why does a company need to demonstrate social responsibility? What benefits, can it get from demonstrating?, , BENEFITS OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, 1. It increases employee satisfaction- the way a firm treats its community is a, reflection of how it treats its employees. Employees feel a sense of, belongingness in the community if they were allowed to be part of society, works as volunteers. Through this, employees feel that they are connected, with their surroundings. Because of that, they may feel proud of their work, and will become more motivated because of these personal development, opportunities. They will be high- engaged in the organization and will be as, products which may lead to business profitability. There is also a greater, chance that employees will take care of the organization., 2. Improve public image- Being involve in society and demonstrate corporate, social responsibility is a great opportunity for a company to be known and, exposed in the public, and more than that, be praised by the people in the, community. It will gain good points for doing good deeds to the society. When, this happens, people will feel good whenever they buy products from a, company that gives back to the community because it is as if consumers are, also helping their community., 3. Increase customer loyalty- people are more loyal to a brand whose company, demonstrates corporate social responsibility. According to research, people, prefer to buy a product that is pro-social and with ethical business standards., 4. Increase creativity – If employees are involved in social responsibility, they, will find ways to help more people by being creative and innovative as part of, their contribution to the company and society., 5. Ease of access to funding- many investors nowadays are more willing to, support firms that practice corporate social responsibility. There is also a big, possibility that these investors will become more loyal as investors are, concerned about ethics, company reputation, and corporate social, responsibility.

CATEGORIES OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, 1. Environmental Responsibility – It also commonly refer as “environmental, stewardship” as it behaves in an environmentally friendly way. It can be, done by reducing pollution, recycling or reusing materials, proper water, consumption, and general waste. It can also be in a form of planting trees,, funding research about the environment, and donating to communities, related to environmental catastrophes and other causes., , 2. Ethical Responsibility - it ensures that the operation of the company is, fair and ethical in manner. It should have fair treatment to its stakeholders, including investors, suppliers, customers, employees, and others. One, example of ethical responsibility is providing fair labor practices and, disallowing child labor., 3. Philanthropic responsibility- this aims to make the world a better place, to live in. Some companies donate a portion of their earnings to a nonprofit, organization, that may or may not be related to their business, as part of, their philanthropic responsibility. Common projects and programs, supported by these firms are educational programs, health programs,, community beautification, and the likes., 4.
