Input devices:1. Key board:It is the most common input device. It allows the user to, input alphabets, numbers and other characters. When a key is, pressed in the keyboard the corresponding ASCII codr is, generated., , 2. Mouse:A mouse is a small hand held device used to indicate the, position of a cursor and its movements on the computer, screen. The mouse has one or more button and a scroll wheel., The different types of mouse are Ball mouse, Optical mouse, and Laser mouse., , 3. Light pen:A light pen is a pointing device. The tip of the light pen, contain a light sensitive element which detect light from the screen, helps to identify the location on the screen., Advantages of light pen is drawing directly on to the screen., , 4. Touch screen:It allow the user to operate by touching on to the display, screen.

Application:• Smart phone, • ATM, • Information kiosks, , 5. Graphic tablets:It consist of an electronic writing area and a special pen, that work with it. The pen of the graphics tablet is pressure sensitive., , 6. Touch pad:It is also a pointing device used in Laptop and some, external keyboard. It allow to move the mouse pointer without, the need of external mouse., , 7. Joy stick:It is used to play video games, controlling training, simulators, Robots. The joy stick has a vertical stick which can, move in any direction., , 8. Microphone:It us used to input the sound. It accept the sound and, convert it into digital format.

9. Scanner:The scanner input the information like picture or text and, convert it into digital format. The quality of the image depend on, the resolution of the scanner., , 10., , Optical Mark Readed (OMR):-, , OMR scans a printed form and read pre-defined position, and record the mark on the form. It is used in objective type test., Advantages:- ● Speed, ● Accuracy, , 11., , Barcode Reader:-, , It is used to input data from set of Barcode. It is a, hand held scanner commonly used in shops to scan code and price, of an item. Mobile phone with camera and special software can, used as barcode reader., , 12., , QR(Quick Response) code Reader:-, , It is similar to barcode. Barcode are single, dimensional and QR code are two dimensional. This is used to, store plain text, phone numbers, e-mail address etc.

13., , Biometric censor:-, , It is used to identify unique human physical, features with high accuracy. It reads the physical features like, finger print, retina, iris pattern etc.. Three types of Biometric, censors are semiconductor censor, optical censor and ultra sound, censor., , 14., , Smart card reader:-, , A smart card reader is used to access data in the, smart card. It can be contact type or contactless. A contact type of, reader require physical contact with the card. Contactless type of, reader work with Radio frequency., , 15., , Digital camera:-, , A digital camera take the pictures and video and, convert them into digital format. Pictures or videos can be store, inside its memory and can be transfer to computer by connecting, the camera to it.

Output devices:Output devices are devices that print or display the output, from a computer. Output generated by the output devices may be, hardcopy or softcopy., Hardcopy outputs are permanent outputs which can be used at, a later data or when required. They produce permanent record on, papers. The common output devices that produce hardcopy outputs, are printers and plotters., Softcopy outputs are electronic and are available on the screen, in a digital form. They do not produce a permanent record. A, common softcopy output device is the Visual Display Unit (VDU)., , Following are some output devices;, , 1. Visual Display Unit, It is an output device that conveys text, graphics and video, information. Information on the display device is known as soft, copy. Display devices includes Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitor,, LCD monitor, LED monitor, Thin film transistor monitor, Gas, plasma monitor., ➢ CRT Monitor:- It is used in television. 2 types of CRT, monitors are Monochrome and Colour. Monochrome, monitor display in a single colour on a dark, background. Colour monitor uses red, blue and green, and display different colours.
Page 6 :
➢ LCD Monitor:- LCD displays consist of liquid crystals, sandwiched between two plastic plate. A light sourse, at the back of this place make the picture visible., ➢ LED Monitor:- LED monitor use LED directly to light up, the screen. Better colour quality, clarity, wider viewing, angle, power saving etc. Are the advantages of LED, monitor. It is expensive., ➢ Plasma Monitor:- It contain neon gas between the, glass plate with parallel electrode on its surface. It, provide high resolution, but expensive., ➢ OLED Monitor:- It is made up of millions of tiny LED., The ‘O’ in the OLED means Organic, Which means, there is a carbon in the light emitting layer. It is thinner, and lighter than LCD and LED., , 2. Projector:It is used to display video, images or computer data on a, large screen. It is of two types, Stide projector and over head, projector. The beam of light passes through the lens, project and, focus images on the screen., , 3. Printer:Printers are used to produce hardcopy output. Printers, can be classified into two, I., Impact printer, II. Non – impact printer
Page 7 :
Impact printer use the type writing mechanism where a, hammer strikes the paper through a ribbon to produce output. Dot, Matrix printer are Impact printer, Non – impact Printer do not touch the paper while printing., Ink jet, laser, thermal printers are Non – Impact printers. Two factors, that determine the quality of a printer are its resolution and speed., ❖ Dot Matrix Printer:- Dot Matrix printers use electro, magnetically activated pins in the print head and an inked, ribbon. Most commonly used print head consist of nine pins., The disadvantages of Dot Matrix printers are it is slow and, noisy., ❖ Ink jet printer:- Ink jet printer prints the image on a page by, spraying tiny droplets of ink from the print head. It need, several colours of ink to make colour images. It is inexpensive, but the cost of colour ink is high., ❖ Laser Printer:- Laser printer produces good quality output. The, image to be printed is transferred to a drum using laser beam., The tonner powder sprayed on the drum. It is transferred to a, paper by rolling the paper over the drum. Through heating the, powder is fused on to the paper., ❖ Thermal Printer:- Thermal printer produces a printed image by, heating a heat sensitive thermal paper when it passes through, the thermal print head.

Plotter:A plotter is an output device used to produce hardcopies, of graphs and designs on the paper. Plotters are of two types., I., II., I., , II., , Drum Plotter, Flat bed Plotter, , Drum Plotter:- A drum plotter is also known as roller plotter., It consist of a drum or roller on which a paper is placed and the, drum rotates back and forth to produce the graph on the, paper, Flat bed Plotter:- A flat bed plotter is also known as table, plotter. It plots on paper that is spread and fixed over a, rectangular flat bed table. The flat bed plotter uses two, drawing arms each of which holds a set of coloured ink pens or, pencils.

5. Three Dimensional printer (3D):A 3D printer is a new generation output device used to, print 3D objects. It cam produce different kinds of objects in, different materials, using the same printer. A 3D printer can, print anything from ceramic cups to plastic toys, metal machine, parts, stoneware vases, fancy chocolate cakes etc., , 6. Audio output device:The audio output is the ability of the computer to produce, sound. Speakers are the output device that produces sound.
