MEET THE AUTHOR, • Liam O’Flaherty (1896 – 1984) was a 20th century novelist and, short story writer., • His works combine brutal naturalism, psychological analysis, poetry, and a biting satire., • One of the leading figures of the Irish Renaissance., • He served in the British Army during the WW I in the Irish Guard., • In 1917, he was badly injured and later suffered a mental, breakdown., • His most famous work is THE INFORMER, which was adapted into, an Oscar winning movie in 1935., • His other notable works are The Sniper, Skerrett, Insurrection,, The Pedlar’s Revenge and Other Stories and so on., • His autobiography Shame the Devil was published in 1934.

The young seagull was, alone on his ledge., He felt afraid to fly., He couldn’t muster up the, confidence that his wings, would support him.

His brothers and sister had already, started flying., They flew away with their parents, almost 24 hours ago.

He watched his parents teaching, his siblings flying and fishing., He also saw his brother catch a, herring and eat it., He was feeling hungry. There was, no food on the ledge., He saw his mother eating fish and, called out to her.

At first, his mother mocked him, for not flying out and catching, his food himself., After sometimes, she flew out to, him with a piece of fish., Using it as a bait, she made him, to step off the ledge.
