Example: A patient was stabbed in the left forearm. A surgeon took the patient to an operating suite and, completed wound exploration. Fracture /dislocation, Arthrodesis:, Fracture – Break in the continuity of a bone, May be Traumatic / Pathological., Dislocation – Displacement of a bone from its normal position., Arthrodesis – Surgical immobilization of a joint by fusion of the bones., Amputation – Surgical removal of part or entire limb., Fractures are treated either by Closed/Open/Percutaneous, The type of fracture does not have any coding correlation with the type of treatment., 1. Closed Treatment - Fracture site is not surgically opened, it can be treated by, A. With or without manipulation, B. With or without traction., , 2. Open Treatment – Making incision and surgically opened the fracture site. Fracture can be treated, by, A. Internal fixation, B. Intramedullary nail across the fracture site., , 3.
