This test was started because it was felt that the National Level Eligibility Test might not be enough to represent the regional subjects in their character. Also, it was demanded that the candidates be allowed to appear for the test in their mother tongue.

Therefore, the State Governments and Union Territories were given the option of conducting their own test to gauge the eligibility for a Lectureship at the state level. Now, this test is conducted both in English and the vernacular language. This test decides whether a candidate is eligible for the Assistant Professor post and checks whether a candidate is suitable for delivering the lectures. Now that we have got the basic information about the SLET, let’s know about the SLET exam pattern.

SLET Exam Pattern

In total, the State Level Eligibility Test has three papers.

  • Paper-I is a common paper that evaluates the general aptitude of the candidates. This paper consists of 60 questions of two marks each, and out of these 60 questions, candidates have to answer 50 questions only.
  • Paper-II is subject-based. It consists of 50 compulsory questions of two marks each.
  • Paper-III is also subject-based. This paper consists of 75 compulsory questions of two marks each.
  • All the questions in Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III are objective-type questions such as multiple-choice, matching, true and false, assertion and reasoning, etc.

Duration of Each Paper

As discussed above, this test has three papers in total. Out of those three papers, Paper-I is for 1.25 hours and Paper- II is also for 1.25 hours, but Paper- III is for 2.5 hours.

Total Marks Assigned

For Paper-I and Paper-II, the total marks assigned are 200. Paper-I has 100 marks as the candidate has to attempt 50 questions out of 60 questions, which are 2 marks each. Paper-II also has 50 questions of 2 marks each.

For Paper-III, the total marks assigned are 150 marks as it has 75 questions for 2 marks each.

SLET Exam Structure

So far, we have seen the basics of SLET exam pattern, like how many questions will be there and how many marks. Now, let’s go through the structure briefly to understand the SLET exam pattern in a better way.

  • Paper- I is of general nature. It tests the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. This paper is designed to test the reasoning ability, general awareness, and divergent thinking of the candidate. But it is to be noted that the candidate has to attempt only 50 questions out of 60 questions, and if in case they attempt more than 50, then the first fifty attempted questions will be evaluated.
  • Paper-II & Paper- III – These two papers consist of objective-type compulsory questions based on the subject chosen by the candidate. The twist in this is if a candidate wants to appear for two or more than two subjects, then they have to do this in separate attempts.

The candidates must note that there is no negative marking in the State Level Eligibility Test. Therefore, it is always recommended to attempt the maximum questions possible. No age limit and no limit on the number of attempts allowed are the other perks the conducting authority has given to the candidates.
