Situated learning refers to an action or thought that is used at a correct place and time. Students learn the content by performing the activities, in this mode of learning. In traditional learning, learning takes place from books, lectures, etc. but in situated learning, it is more of using critical and logical thinking and learning from experiences.
In this type of learning, learning starts with establishing the relationship between people and connecting prior or acquired knowledge with authentic and unintended contextual learning.
Situated learning is when the real learning happens and students have to work on real or authentic tasks. It is the learning that happens unintentionally rather than conscious learning. It focuses more on practical learning and enhances the problem-solving skills of the students.
The students are involved in cooperative activities if they are in this type of learning. Here they have to use their kinesthetic abilities and critical thinking. In this type of learning, social interactions and collaborations are important for growth and development.
There are different ways by which this kind of learning can take place in the classroom. Students engage themselves in activities that are realistic or related to the real world and complex. For example, group activities, role-playing, scenario-based learning, etc.
