What is HTET?

HTET is the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test conducted every year for all those aspirants who wish to become government school teachers in Haryana. The annual examination is conducted by the Board of School Education of Haryana (BSEH). 

HTET is the only way (a state-level examination) that a candidate can become a government school teacher on any of the three possible levels: Level I Primary Teacher, Level II Trained Graduate Teacher, or Level III Post Graduate Teacher, in Haryana.

Based on personal qualifications, educational qualifications, interest, and expertise, a candidate may opt to appear for either one, two, or all three levels of examination to become eligible to be a Haryana government school teacher. 

All the HTET qualified candidates of the three levels who manage to clear the cut-off receive a certificate from the Board of School Education of Haryana valid for seven years. The candidates can use this certificate to apply for teaching jobs in all government schools in Haryana only. 

What is HTET Eligibility Criteria 

The eligibility criteria based on education qualifications are different for all three levels but must be surely met by the candidates applying in that particular level. As one progresses from Level I to Level III, the educational qualifications in the eligibility criteria become more advanced. 

For instance, while Level I and Level II require a senior secondary (or equivalent degree) with a minimum aggregate score, it is not enough to appear for Level III. A candidate must have a Postgraduate degree in their respective chosen subject with at least 50% marks. 

Candidates must go through all the details of the qualifications required even before beginning the preparation for HTET.

What is HTET Age Limit and Number of Attempts 

The age limit of candidates applying for the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Examination must be between 18-38 years. 

As for the number of attempts, the Board of School Education, Haryana, has not put any limit on the number of attempts a candidate can take for clearing HTET. 

What is HTET Registration Process

Follow the following steps to register for HTET:

  • Head to the official website of the Board of School Education Haryana and fill out the application form as soon as the notification is released for inviting applications. 
  • Fill out the form and upload all the necessary documents asked for in the form. 
  • Make the payment to confirm your registration.
  • After filling out the form online and depositing the application fees, keep checking on the website for any further notices regarding the exam. 
  • Nearing the exam date, the admit card will be made available for download on the same website. When the admit card is out, download it and keep it safe. It is advised to make a hard copy of the admit card. 

Downloading the admit card is the last step of registering for HTET. On the day of the exam, all candidates should make sure to carry all necessary documents and admit cards to the exam center.

Application Fees for HTET

As per the latest information available on HTET, refer to the following information on application fees for the examination: 

  • For PH and SC candidates belonging to the Haryana Domicile

Application fees for any one level: Rs. 500

Application fees for any two levels: Rs. 900

Application fees for all three levels: Rs. 1200

  • For all candidates other than SC and PH belonging to the Haryana Domicile 

Application fees for any one level: Rs. 1000

Application fees for any two levels: Rs. 1800

Application fees for all three levels: Rs. 2400

  • For all candidates outside Haryana Domicile (including those in PH and SC category)

Application fees for any one level: Rs. 1000

HTET Subjects at a Glance

All three levels of the exam have a different syllabus and exam pattern that candidates should keep in mind while preparing for their particular level (or levels) of HTET.

Level I (Classes I to V) includes Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Child Development and Pedagogy, Languages (Hindi and English), General Studies (Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, and Haryana GK)

Level II (Classes VI to VIII) includes all subjects from Level I, excluding Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Instead, it includes a subject chosen by the candidate prior to the exam. 

Level III (Classes IX to XII) has the same subjects as Level II, but the syllabus is more vast and a bit tougher than what should be expected in Level II.

HTET Preparation 

  • Before starting the preparation, candidates must prepare a complete study plan that goes well with their daily routine and gives them ample time to sit peacefully and study for HTET. 
  • Sorting out books and other study material is the next logical step. Candidates may take advice from previous candidates who successfully cleared HTET, or they may research on their own. Choosing easy-to-understand books, covering the entire syllabus is crucial.
  • It is important to take a few mock tests to get a real picture of how the exam will be to be better prepared. Practicing to complete practice tests in the actual exam atmosphere can be advantageous.
