It’s a state-level examination, and the applicants compete to get a job as a Level I (Primary Teacher) or Level II (Upper Primary Teacher). In other words, applicants passing the RTET and REET exam will be teaching classes 1 to 5 and classes 6 to 8, according to their level.
RTET and REET Eligibility
The REET exam’s eligibility is set to filter qualified candidates, and it is administered by the Board of Secondary Examination, Rajasthan (BSER). The purpose is to create a benchmark for candidates and ensure that applicants with a certain level of educational prowess alone attempt the exam.

For Primary Level Teachers Exam (Classes 1 to 5)
- The applicant should have completed the class 12 exam with a minimum of 50% marks and an additional 2-year diploma in Elementary Education.
OR
- The candidate should have passed the class 12th exam with 45% marks, minimum. In addition to this, they should hold a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education associated with NCTE.
OR
- The applicant should have passed the class 12th exam with 50% with a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
OR
- Any applicant who has passed the class 12th exam with a minimum of 50% and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) can also apply.
OR
- A candidate with a degree in any discipline with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education can also apply.
For Paper-2 or Upper Primary Level (Classes 6 to 8)
- Applicants with a graduate degree in any discipline and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education are eligible to apply.
OR
- Graduates who have scored at least 50% marks in their course and also hold a 2-year Bachelor’s degree in Education can apply.
OR
- A 2-year Bachelor’s degree in Education from NCTE and a graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks.
OR
- 12th pass candidates who have cleared the exam with at least a 50% score and a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
OR
- Candidates with at least 50% marks in 12th exam and graduation degree in B.A or B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed can also apply.
OR
- Applicants who hold a graduation degree with at least 50% marks and 1-year Bachelor’s degree in Education (Special Education) can apply.
How are Candidates Selected in the RTET and REET Exams?
The exam process is completed in three parts. Part 1 is about filling the application form. This involves visiting the official REET website. The application form involves sharing your personal and professional information along with uploading the required documents.
The application process will be complete once the exam fee is paid. The exam fee to give the Level-I exam is INR 550, and if the candidate wants to give the Level-II exam, the fee is INR 750.
Part 2 is about checking and downloading the admit card. Candidates can download their admit cards one week before the exam. They have to download it from the official RTET and REET websites. You will find the information about the exam date, time, center, and other details.
Part 3 of the process is the concluding component of the REET exam. Qualified candidates are selected based on their scores in the exam. All the candidates passing the exam will get a certificate, but they will get a job based on merit.
RTET and REET Exam Pattern
The paper is conducted once a year, and both Level-I and Level-II exams have one paper and five sections. There are 150 multiple choice questions with 30 questions in each section.
The sections included in both the exams are:
- Child Development and Pedagogy
- Language 1
- Language 2
- Mathematics and Science
- Environmental Studies/Social Studies
One language exam is for English, and the other tests you on the subject you choose at the time of filling the application.
You will get 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam, and every correct answer will get you one mark. There is no negative marking in the RTET and REET exams, which means you can answer all questions without fear of losing marks.
Note that the Level-II exam’s applicants need to select one subject from Social Studies or Mathematics and Science. Environmental Studies is not included in the Level-II exam.
Expected Cut-Off Marks for the RTET and REET Exam
The Rajasthan Education Board sets the cut-off marks limit, and students are required to obtain marks higher than this to become a teacher. After passing the exam, the candidates can get a job in any government or private school.
For general category candidates, the cut-off is 90 marks or 60% or above to qualify and have their name included in the merit list.
Students belonging to the SC/ST category get a relaxation here as they are supposed to get a minimum of 82 marks and 55% to qualify for the cut-off list.
