Proficiency-Based Learning

Proficiency refers to the level of knowledge or skill a person has in a particular field of study. Along with that, proficiency is also tested on the application of such knowledge and skill in real-life situations. It refers to a system of instruction, grading, assessment, and academic reporting. Proficiency-based learning helps the students gain and demonstrate the knowledge and skills they are supposed to learn and explore in their education path.

It is sometimes considered a complicated procedure, and the academicians use it in various ways depending upon the need of the hour.

The focus of proficiency-based learning is to help students attain the desired learning results. This allows the students to achieve the required skills, capabilities, and knowledge they need in their chosen areas of specialization using face-to-face learning or other modes such as online classes, virtual classes, etc.

As per the set standards of the State Board of Education, proficiency-based learning is a personalised and a very flexible way to gain knowledge in interested field. When students adhere to the given learning standards as per the principles of proficiency-based learning, they get many benefits such as creative thinking, command over a particular subject matter, problem-solving skills, etc.

However, suppose they fail to meet their desired learning standards. In that case, they end up getting additional instruction, time to practise and the right academic support to gain proficiency of the expected norms.
