Pythagoras Theorem

Pythagoras theorem is a crucial theorem in mathematics related to triangles. It is a fundamental relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle. The theorem can be stated in an equation form, called the Pythagorean equation.

A right triangle has three sides, and the side opposite to the right angle is known as the hypotenuse. The Pythagoras theorem states that the area of the square whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the other two sides.

Various ways are there to prove Pythagoras theorem. These proofs are diverse and include both algebraic and geometric proofs.

History

Pythagoras theorem came into existence after it was introduced by a Greek mathematician Pythagoras of Samos. He formed a group of mathematicians who were passionate about mathematics. The group used to work on various numerical problems. However, the theorem was proved by Pythagoras and hence is named after him.

The theorem can be applied to various fields like woodwork and interior designing, engineering, construction fields, and navigation. The practical application of this theorem makes it one of the most sought theorems in mathematics.

This theorem is a crucial part of the standard 9th and 10th syllabus. Students are asked various questions on this topic during their examinations. Therefore, they must practice related questions to solve the mathematical equations on this topic. Students can prepare from their textbooks and previous year’s question papers to understand more about this concept. Also, they can ask questions from their teachers on this theorem.
