Children with Special Needs (CWSN)

Children with Special Needs (CWSN) are children who have a handicap and require special care and assistance. These children’s particular needs are determined by the nature of their handicap. CWSN Special Needs may include frequent medical tests, hospital stays, equipment, and disability accommodations. CWSN conditions and disabilities can be divided into four major categories:

  • Physical
  • Sensory
  • Developmental
  • Behavioral or Emotional

CWSN Category 1 – Physical

Conditions such as Muscular Dystrophy, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, and Locomotor Disability are examples of physical disability. CWSN has movement and balance problems under these settings. Muscle coordination is poor in Cerebral Palsy due to brain injury. It happens during or before childbirth.

CWSN Category 2 – Sensory

Deafness, hard of hearing, low vision, and blindness are examples of sensory disabilities. These conditions impair one or more of a child’s sensory abilities. Although hearing and vision impairments are more common, other senses (smell, touch, taste, spatial awareness) may be compromised in some situations. Although genetics may play a role, injuries and infection are the most typical reasons.

CWSN Category 3: Developmental

Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and Fragile X Syndrome are examples of common developmental disabilities. Autism Spectrum Disease (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that causes communication and behavioral problems. Autism can strike at any age. Nonetheless, it is classified as a “developmental disorder” because symptoms typically occur within the first two years of life. Down Syndrome is a genetic disease in which a kid is born with an extra whole or partial copy of chromosome 21.

CWSN Category 4: Behavioral or Emotional

Children with behavioral or emotional problems may struggle to form or sustain interpersonal relationships, as well as master new skills. They may also experience depression or anxiety. ADHD and ADD are two frequent types of behavioral disorders.
