English Day

On April 23 English day is celebrated all over the world. In today’s world, multilingualism is becoming more and more important. Besides opening up job opportunities, the ability to speak a foreign language helps establish a real connection with people and learn about the diversity of cultures, places, and ways of life. The more competent you are, the better you can express yourself. It is easy to see how important English is in the world. Many international companies hold meetings in English, universities offer courses in English, and tourists and travelers around the world use English as a lingua franca. We should know how English became so important, it all dates back to the time of the British Empire, which at its peak covered 25% of the earth’s surface. During colonial times, British rulers often forced the inhabitants of these countries to speak English rather than their mother tongue. Although the origins of English as a global language have a complicated past, the language has left an important mark in communication, commerce, and business. English is the language of science, aviation, IT, diplomacy, and tourism. Knowing English increases your chances of getting a good job in a multinational company in your home country or finding a job abroad. English is a particularly important online language with more than half of Internet content being written in English. English day should be celebrated nicely. Everyone should take a pledge to learn English on English day.
