Continuous improvement refers to the quality improvement efforts taken by a school or an organization. The general belief behind this concept is that improvement is not something that has a starting and endpoint. It requires a continuous commitment to learn, adapt, and self-reflect. For instance, if a school has to grow holistically, every department needs to improve continuously. That is why accreditation committees are set up.
The process of continuous improvement consists of 4 steps. The first step is planning. Here, an individual identifies opportunities and comes up with a plan. The next step is acting. It requires implementing the plan. Then comes analysing. It requires a person to check if any actual change took place or not, using data. The last step is to act on the change. If there was a change, it must be implemented widely.
Many global educators believe that continuous improvement requires schools to have the skills, on-staff knowledge, and expertise to improve results and encourage improvement over time.
This improvement is a cyclical process to help students or any group of people in a system. Apart from that, it increases efficiency and productivity. It also encourages teamwork and satisfaction in the workplace. Continuous improvement has become a norm in this day and age.
