REET Syllabus – Language I

What Is REET? 

The Rajasthan Entrance Examination for Teachers (REET) is a state-level examination conducted every year for aspirants who wish to get a job in government schools. The Board of Secondary Education of Rajasthan is the authority responsible for conducting the test. Government schools appoint teachers for primary and higher primary education levels based on the REET exam. 

REET Exam – An Overview 

REET examination consists of five main subjects, which are listed below, 

  • Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Language I
  • Language II 
  • Mathematics and Science / Social Studies 
  • Environmental Studies 

The exam consists of 150 questions, 30 from each subject. The time limit for the exam is 30 minutes. 

Further, the exam is conducted at two levels, 

Level I – For aspirants who want to apply for teaching posts of Classes 1 to 5 

Level II – For aspirants who want to apply for teaching posts of Classes 5 to 8 

For the Language I and Language II subjects, candidates need to choose any of the following languages for the subject exam. 

  1. English 
  2. Hindi 
  3. Gujarati 
  4. Sindhi 
  5. Punjabi 
  6. Sanskrit 
  7. Urdu

The Language I and Language II subject exams are used to check the language proficiency of the teaching aspirant. 

Language I REET Syllabus 

The Language subject is used to check the candidate’s linguistic capabilities. It is a mandatory subject. It is essential to prepare the key question types for this subject, such as Grammar topics, Comprehension passages, and much more. Discussed below are the syllabus details of each of these languages. 

English 

English is one of the widely preferred options for the Language subject. It consists of unseen passages and poems. Aspirants should be prepared for questions on:

  • Modal Auxiliaries 
  • Wh- questions 
  • Phonetics sounds and English sounds

The teaching methods and challenges of English language teaching are included in it. Candidates are expected to be well-versed with their English communication to answer the questions of the exam. 

Hindi

The Hindi language is another popular option chosen for the Language subject of the REET examination. In this subject, the major focus is on Grammar topics. 

Some key topics that candidates must go through once during preparations are, 

  • Form a Sentence, Types of Sentences.
  • Idioms and Phrases
  • Meanings of Words
  • Verb, Noun, and Adjective Identification
  • Synonyms and Antonyms 
  • Identify the Tenses

Sanskrit 

The Sanskrit language consists of several topics that can be asked for MCQ-type questions. These questions are mainly grammar-based. Candidates are also examined for language skills through comprehension questions. 

Some key topics that candidates should prepare for are given below, 

  • Root Form of the Adjectives and Adverbs
  • Identify the Word Forms 
  • Find the Action Word 
  • Singular, Plural, or Dual 
  • Form Sentences in Sanskrit 
  • Add Question Tags 

These questions check the in-depth Sanskrit proficiency of the candidate in terms of language comprehension. 

Urdu 

Another preferred language type, Urdu, consists of prose and poem comprehension questions. Candidates must prepare the word forms and their meanings to answer the MCQ questions. 

Candidates are expected to be prepared for the following question types, 

  • Add Question Tags 
  • Recognize the Word Form 
  • Find the Tense of the Sentence 
  • Find Verbs and Adjectives
  • Use the Word in its Correct Form 

Punjabi 

The Punjabi language exam consists of questions such as, 

  • Find the Meaning of the Word 
  • Tense of Sentence 
  • Form a sentence using the given word
  • Find the Verb 
  • Find the Root Word 

There may also be prose for comprehension-type questions. 

Gujarati 

The Gujarati language is one of the highly preferred languages for the REET exam. Some of the question types that one may come across in the exam are, 

  • Prose/Poetry Comprehension 
  • Synonyms and Antonyms 
  • Form the Sentences 
  • Find the Tense 
  • Teaching Aids 
  • Singular, Plural, or Dual
  • One word for many words

These question types should be prepared for scoring well in this language exam. 

Sindhi 

The Sindhi language exam consists of the following question types, 

  • Prose Comprehension 
  • Find the meaning 
  • Recognize the Tense 
  • Form Sentences 
  • Find Verb, Noun, and Adjective
