Punjab Technical University was established in 1997 under an Act of the State Legislature to promote technical, management, and pharmaceutical education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The institute was originally established as Punjab Technical University, however, its name was changed to I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University by the state government in honor of Late Sh.
