NEET PG

Every year, millions of students apply for multiple competitive examinations from various departments. NEET PG for medical examinations is one of the most populous, where 2.9 lakh students registered and appeared in the year 2023. It is the best way for aspiring doctors to seek admission through their ranks in the best medical colleges and courses. With the evolving medical standards the need for good doctors that go alongside healthcare career opportunities is increasing, giving students a stable option.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) is a crucial examination for medical graduates in India aspiring to pursue postgraduate medical courses. NEET PG is the gateway to various Master’s and Doctoral programs in medical and dental colleges nationwide. Here’s everything you need to know about this significant examination.

What is the difficulty level of NEET PG examinations?

Given the student data of 2023 examinations from candidates who appeared the exam was moderately difficult as 80.8% of them rated it; 9.6% rated it extremely difficult. Although topics could be repeated from previous years considering there is a wide range of topics and alternative questions it is easy to overlap various subjects and confuse answers. The real challenge is to answer as many correctly as possible in the given period (3 hours 30 minutes). Subjects like Microbiology, Medicine Pediatrics, OBG, and surgery carry the most weight. Students can expect clinical scenario-based questions and some on-hold one-liners too. Neet pg is more difficult as compared to Neet. The reason for the enhanced difficulty level is the lesser number of seats available for the postgraduate seats.

What is the best strategy to apply in the NEET examination?

From experienced students who have formalized their best techniques in NEET PG:

  • Follow the 65-65-70 rule of attempting questions, dividing it in this pattern. It is not about attempting as many questions as possible, it is about attempting them and getting them right. Hence read all the options even if you know the right answer.
  • Mentally mark questions that you are doubtful about to review later. Get done with the easy questions in the first 1.5 hours.
  • Preparing with as many mock tests as possible is the best way to crack NEET PG examinations. Solving mock tests can be very beneficial for the aspirants as they can analyze their performance and prepare accordingly.
  • Solve all the previous year’s question papers. Analyzing all the previous year question papers gives you a hint of the type of questions coming in the exam and will provide you a gist of the weightage of the important topics.
