What is PGT?
Before we go into the PGT marking scheme or pattern, let’s see what exactly PGT is. Post-graduate teachers (PGT) are eligible for teaching students of senior secondary or higher secondary classes. You can easily earn the highest income in the school education field if you successfully become a PGT. However, in order to get yourself a PGT certificate, you will have to qualify for the PGT recruitment exam, which can contain both a test and an interview.

Which are the main PGT Exams?
There are various PGT exams that are conducted at national and state levels. The PGT marking scheme and syllabus could slightly vary according to the exams.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan: Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan manages 1235 schools all over India and is supervised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. This management is responsible for conducting PGT exams every year in various locations of the country for aspiring candidates.
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti: Managed by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samit runs many schools in various parts of India. This organization also conducts PGT recruitment exams to select eligible candidates.
Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board (UPSESSB): This board is responsible for organizing PGT exams every year in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Board of School Education Haryana: The government of Haryana also organizes these exams every year which are supervised by the Board of School Education Haryana. The PGT exam represents the Level 3 category of the state’s teacher’s eligibility test, HTET (Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test).
PGT Marking Scheme
As mentioned above marking schemes will differ as per the PGT tests:
UP PGT Marking Scheme:
In the UP PGT exam, there will be:
- 125 Multiple choice Questions
- Each Question will carry 3.4 marks
- The total mark for the written test is 425.
- The written test will carry 85% weightage while the rest 10%and 5% will be for the interview and special qualification (National level sports participation, M.Ed. B.Ed, etc.) respectively.
- The interview carries 50 marks while the special qualification carries 25 marks.
- UP PGT test does not have a negative marking scheme. No marks will be deducted if the answers are wrong.
KVS PGT Marking Scheme:
PGT written test will carry a total of 7 sections.
- 150 Multiple choice questions
- Each Question will carry 1 mark
- The total Mark will therefore be 150
- The exam is will have two parts: Paper 1 and Paper 2
- Paper 1 will have General English and General Hindi; each carrying 10 marks.
- Paper 2 will have GK & current affairs with 10 marks, reasoning with 10 marks, pedagogy with 20 marks, and Subject concerned carrying 80 marks.
- KVS PGT test also does not carry any negative marking scheme.
HTET PGT Marking Scheme:
- 150 Multiple Choice Question
- Each question carries 1 mark
- Total marks will be 150
- Child development and pedagogy will carry 30 marks, Hindi and English together will also carry 30 marks, General studies carry another 30 marks, and your concerned subject will carry 60 marks.
- HTET PGT marking scheme has no negative marking.
Eligibility Criteria for PGT
Now, let’s look into the eligibility criteria.
- The age limit for the PGT exams is in the range of 21 and 40 years. This can slightly vary depending on the PGT exam you write.
- The PGT candidate must have a postgraduate degree in the subject he/she/they wish to teach. For instance, if you wish to teach Maths, you must have a postgraduate degree in Maths.
- The candidates must have passed and completed their B.Ed course.
- The PG course must be cleared with at least 50% marks from a reputed and recognized university.
- Fluency in Hindi and English is a mandatory requirement.
- Finally, you must clear the written test and interview at the national or state level to be eligible to be a PGT and teach senior secondary or higher secondary classes.
