CSIR NET Marking Scheme

The national-level CSIR NET exam is for the job of junior research fellow and assistant professor in reputed colleges and universities. It is among the toughest exams to qualify in India. And to qualify for the exam, it is important you understand the marking scheme and paper pattern.

Paper pattern of CSIR NET exam 

CSIR NET exam is conducted online, and the paper consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQ). There are 120 questions worth 200 marks. You get 3 hours to solve the paper.

The question paper will be divided into three parts – A, B, and C. Each part contains a different number of questions. The number and compulsory questions you need to attempt varies according to the subject you have chosen.

Marking scheme of CSIR NET Exam for Chemical Sciences

The paper for Chemical Sciences consists of 120 questions and 200 CSIR NET marks. The marking scheme of the Chemical Science paper is:

  • Part A: It has 20 questions, and you have to compulsorily answer any 15. You will score 2 marks for every right answer and lose 0.5 for every wrong one. The total marks of this section will be 30. The questions are mainly from general science, research aptitude, and logical reasoning and analysis.
  • Part B: It has 40 questions, and you must answer any 35. For every right answer, you will get 2 marks, but every wrong one will deduct 0.5 points from your total score. The total CSIR NET marks for this section is 70. The section tests your core knowledge of Chemical Science.
  • Part C: The section has 60 questions, and you have to answer any 25. In this section, for every right answer, you will score 4 marks but lose 1 for every wrong one. It is worth 100 marks. The analytical questions are designed to check the scientific knowledge of candidates.

Marking scheme of CSIR NET Exam for Physical Sciences

For the Physical Sciences paper, too, there are 120 questions and 200 CSIR NET marks. The marking scheme of the Physical Science paper is:

  • Part A: This section contains 20 questions, and you have to answer any 15. Every right answer will fetch you 2 marks, and wrong answers will take away 0.5. The total marks of this section are 30. The questions come from general science, research aptitude, and logical reasoning and analysis subjects.
  • Part B: This section contains 25 questions, and you must answer any 20. For the right answer, you will get 3.5 marks, and for the wrong ones, you lose 0.8. The total CSIR NET marks for this section is 70. The questions come from the core topics of Physical Science.
  • Part C: It has 30 questions, and you have to answer any 20. You score 5 marks for right answers and lose 1.25 for wrong ones. The total mark of this section is 100. The analytical questions of this section are designed to evaluate your scientific knowledge.

Marking scheme of CSIR NET Exam for Mathematical Sciences

The exam for Mathematical sciences consists of 120 questions worth 200 CSIR NET marks. The marking scheme of the Mathematical Science paper is broken down here:

  • Part A: The section has 20 questions, and you have to compulsorily answer any 15. For right answers, you will score 2 marks, and for wrong ones, you will lose 0.5. The total mark of this section is 30. The questions are mainly from general science, research aptitude, and logical reasoning and analysis subjects.
  • Part B: You will get 40 questions, and you have to answer 25. For the right answer, you earn 3 marks, and you lose 0.75 for the wrong ones. The total marks of this section will be 75. The questions test your knowledge of core Mathematical Sciences.
  • Part C: This section carries 60 questions, and you have to answer any 20 questions. For the right ones, you will score 4.75 marks. There is no negative marking in this section; you will score marks for the right answers, lose nothing for the wrong ones. The section is worth 95 marks. The questions are designed to test your scientific knowledge.

Marking scheme of CSIR NET Exam for Life Sciences

The Life Sciences exam also has 120 questions worth 200 CSIR NET marks. The marking scheme of the Life Science paper is:

  • Part A: The section has 20 questions, and you are required to answer any 15. You score 2 marks for right answers and lose 0.5 for wrong ones. This section is worth 30 marks and tests your research aptitude and logical reasoning and analysis skills.
  • Part B: Part B consists of 50 questions, and you must answer any 35. You get 2 marks for the right answer and lose 0.5 for the wrong one. The section is worth 70 marks and tests your core Life Sciences knowledge.
  • Part C: This section has 75 questions, and you must answer any 25. For the right answer, you will score 4 marks but lose 1 for every wrong one. This section worth 100 marks tests your scientific knowledge.

Marking scheme of CSIR NET Exam for Earth Sciences

The Earth Sciences exam also asks you 120 questions and is worth 200 CSIR NET marks. The marking scheme of the Earth Science paper is:

  • Part A: It has 20 questions out of which the candidate has to compulsory answer any 15 questions. Each right answer will give you 2 marks, and each wrong answer will deduct 0.5 marks. The total marks of this section will be 30. The questions are mainly from general science, research aptitude, and logical reasoning and analysis.
  • Part B: It has 50 questions out of which the candidate has to compulsory answer any 35 questions. Each right answer will give you 2 marks, and each wrong answer will deduct 0.5 marks. The total marks of this section will be 70.
  • Part C: It has 80 questions, and you should answer any 25. For the right answer, you score 4 marks and lose 1.32 for the wrong ones. The total mark of this section is 100. These questions are designed to test your scientific knowledge.
