The T.S of thyroid reveals the following structure., , Externally covered by fibrous connective tissue, , sheath or capsule., , Inner to the capsule lie a large number of lobules, , formed by the septa / trabeculae from capsule.

3. The lobules in turn contain follicles of varying sizes , , (about 03 million), , 4. Large follicles lie towards the periphery where as, , small follicles lie towards the center of lobules., , 5. Thyroid follicles are surrounded by connective tissue, , called as interfollicular tissue which contain blood, , vessels & nerve fibers.

6. Each follicle is lined by a single layer of cuboidal , , epithelium resting on a thin basement membrane., , 7. Inside the epithelium lies follicular cavity or acinus, , containing a semisolid substance----colloid called as, , thyroglobulin—a precursor of thyroid harmone—, , (T4 / T3).

8. Between the follicular cells are found smaller or , , larger cells either singly or in groups—called as, , parafollicular cells or C cells secreting another , , harmone—as calcitonin(CT).
