Report Writing, A report is a systematic, well-organised document which defines and analyses a, subject or a problem. It may include the following:, • a record of a sequence of events interpretation of the significance of these, events or facts, • evaluation of the facts or results of research presented discussion of the, outcomes of a decision or course of action conclusion., Parts of a Report, (a) Introduction, It should start with a positive statement. It should answer the 5W_{S} - W_{10}, What, Where When, Why and How. This means, it should tell about the person, who did the action, what he did, the place, date and time of action and why and, how he did it. Economise on words Look after the words; and the style will look, after itself. Lay stress on concrete details., (b) Details, Give only as much background information as is required for the understanding of, the reader and to sustain his interest., Guidelines for Report Writing, 1. Write in Indirect Speech., 2. Use the Passive Voice., 3. Eliminate T., 4. No personal opinion should be given unless specifically asked for., 5. The language used in a report should be simple and not ornamented with, similes and metaphors., 6. One must keep in mind the reader of one's report. A magazine report, for, instance, can be much lighter and more informal than the one in a newspaper,, which is more factual., Newspaper Report
