if thin T.S of young dicot root shows three, , distinct regions, they are epiblema (piliferous layer) cortex and stele., , Piliferous layer - The outer most protective layer of the root is called epiblema. It consists of single, layer of thin walled living cells. The stomata and cuticle are absent. Some of the cells of the epiblema, produce unicellular extensions called root hairs. Root hairs absorb water and minerals. i, , Cortex ~is homogeneous and parenchymatus. The cortex is broader than the stele. The inner most, layer of the cortex is the endodermis. Endodermis is composed of single layer of compactly arranged barrel, shaped cells. The radial and inner tangential walls of the endodrmal cells are thickened by lignin and, sberin. These characterstic thickenings are called casparian strips,or carparian bands. They prevent \, , plasmolysis in the cells of endodermis. The cells opposite to the proto-xylem cells remain thin walled, with out casparian thickenings. Such thin walled cells are called passage cells. The passage cells allow, , the passage of water from the cortical cells to the xylem., Stele is the central portion which includes the pericycle, vascular bundle, conjunctive tissue and pith., , ericycle-foundinside the endodermis, parenchymatous. The lateral roots are produced from the, , pericycle., Vascular tissue-It consists of separate alternating strands of xylem and phloem. Typically described as, , , , radial xylem exarch and tetrarch. The xylem vessels are polygonal in C.S, , Conjunctive tissue-Parenchymatous tissue between xylem and phloem., Pith-Central parenchymatous region. Pith is poorly developed or small in size., , Anatomy of monocot root eg: colocasia_A.T.S of monocot root shows three distinct Tegion, namely epiblema, cortex and stele from the periphery towards the centre.( Epiblema -similar to dicot root,Cortexsimilar to dicot root.), , Stele is the central portion which includes the pericycle, vascular bundle, conjunctive tissue and pith., Vascular bundles of a monocot root can be described as radial, polyarch (always more than 6 xylem arms, , alternate with equal no of phloem patches) and exarch. The xylem vessels are oval or circular in C.S., , Pith-in monocot root the pith is broard and very well developed. It is made up of thin walled parenchyma, , cells., between monocot stem and dicot stem., /
