Global Warming and its Impact on Us, Points: Global warming definition, causes, global warming effects on everything,, things to be done to mitigate it, Conclusion., , Introduction: Global w arming is the temperature of earth surface oceans and, atmosphere going up ov er the years. Av erage temperatures today are about 1, degree higher than before the industrial rev olution, w hich started around 1750., Scientists fear by 2100 temperatures w ill be higher than they w ere before 1750., , Causes: the most common cause of global w arming is the emission of greenhouse, gases like CO2. Thermal pow er plants and motor transportation contribute the most, to greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases trap the radiating heat from earth, surface and cause the planet to get hotter. Some natural causes like v olcanic, eruptions also contribute to a significant amount of global w arming. Other major, causes include industrial rev olution, burning fossil fuels, mining, cattle rearing and, deforestation., The effects of global w arming are multifaceted. Env ironmental, economic and, health consequences are likely to occur if current trends continue., , The effects are●, Melting glaciers, early snow melt and sev ere droughts w ill cause more, dramatic w ater shortages and increase the risk of w ildfires., ●, Rising sea lev els w ill lead to coastal flooding in low -lying areas leading to, displacement of millions and in addition huge economic and infrastructural loss w ill, be incurred., ●, Forests, farms and cities w ill face troublesome new pests, heat w av es, heav y, dow npours leading to damage or destroying agriculture and fisheries., ●, Disruption of marine habitats for w armer ocean currents and extinction of, animal species and biodiv ersity loss., ●, Allergies, asthma and infectious diseases outbreak will become common due, to increased grow th of air pollution., , Scientists fear the changes that hav e occurred due to global w arming are, irrev ersible. But w ith a timely interv ention and changing our lifestyles through, Competitive Exam Guidance for W BCS, W BP SI, KP SI/Sergeant. Mob-7908488340

adaptation of green energies w e can mitigate the problems certainly to a great, extent., , Mitigation: Various approaches or technology have been proposed to prevent the, increase of the earth’s surface temperature i.e. global w arming. How ev er, geoengineering is the best w ay to mitigate future’s sev ere global w arming. Geoengineering is div ided broadly into tw o categories: carbon dioxide capturing and, remov al (CDCR) technology and solar geo-engineering or solar radiation, management (SRM) technology., •, According to the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 °C limiting, w arming below or close to 1.5 °C (2.7 °F) w ould require to decrease net CO2, emissions by around 45% by 2030 from the lev el of 2010 and reach net zero by 2050., •, Trees hold large amount of terrestrial carbon in their biomass. They capture, atmospheric CO2 as they grow . Therefore, prev enting deforestation and increasing, afforestation and reforestation are much better w ays to mitigate global w arming, •, Use of renewable energy sources as w e know , fossil fuels are non-renew able, and ev entually w ill be exhausted. This is the time w e need to install facilities to use, alternativ e energy sources. Renewable energy sources like Solar Pow er, Wind Farms,, tidal energy, biogas, hydroelectricity, geothermal energy, Natural Gas, Nuclear, Pow er hold the key of future energy generation., •, Energy conserv ation and efficiency and should be encouraged in building, and transportation sectors. Heating and cooling of the residential buildings need to, be encouraged through solar and w ind energy. Adaptation of electric v ehicles w ill, cut dow n CO2 emissions by a huge margin., •, Carbon sequestration is the storing of carbon in to a reservoir called a carbon, sink such as grow ing a forest or through artificial carbon dioxide remov al such as, direct air capture., •, Protecting w etlands, forests, permafrosts w ill help reducing the carbon dioxide load from the env ironment., •, As 25% of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) are coming from agriculture and, land use. With 21% of the global methane emissions, cattle are a major driv er on, global w arming. Limiting meat intake and practice of organic farming generate far, few er emissions., , Competitive Exam Guidance for W BCS, W BP SI, KP SI/Sergeant. Mob-7908488340
