It includes why words are used and how they have changed over time. It is a part of history but this relates to social studies as well. It can sometimes be used to determine if something is a type of word or if it has changed over time. For example, &#8220;jock&#8221; was originally spelled &#8220;jak,&#8221; but now it is spelled as we know it today. It can also be used in education to show how language changes over time for different groups of people. <br><br>Take, for example, the term &#8220;boy.&#8221; Up until the late 1800s, this term applied to all children <a href=\"http:https:\/\/www.teachmint.com\/glossary\/g\/gender-studies\/\">regardless of gender<\/a>. A person who studies etymology is called an &#8220;etymologist.&#8221; The study of etymology typically deals with how a word entered the language, its meaning, and changes over time. In education, the term &#8220;etymology&#8221; refers to the origin and historical development of a word. The etymology of a word can be traced back to its ancient form, its vernacular use over time, and its various other forms in<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.teachmint.com\/tips-to-improve-language-skills-a-guide-for-teachers\/\"> different languages<\/a>. Etymology is usually taught in grade school or high school as part of language arts or history courses.
