First and Second National Policies on Education in India<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first and second national policies on education in India were signed by Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi respectively.\u00a0The first and second national policies on education in India played a very important role in the development of the education system. NEP is a comprehensive framework for managing the progress of education in the country. The need for politics was first recognized in 1964 when Congressman Siddeshwar Prasad criticized the government’s lack of educational vision and philosophy at the time. In the same year, under the leadership of then-UCC Chair D. S. Kothari, a 17-member school board was established to formulate a national and coordinated education policy. In 1968, Parliament adopted the first education policy based on the Commission’s recommendations. New NEPs are published every few decades, there are three in India. The first was signed by Indira Gandhi in 1968 and the second was signed by Rajiv Gandhi in 1986. The 1986 NEP was updated in 1992 by then-Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao.\u00a0After the first and second national policies on education in India, the third was announced by PM Narendra Modi. The National Education Policy was created to improve the quality of education in the country by focusing on providing educational opportunities to all residents. It was revised again in 1992 to promote freedom of knowledge and thought among the people of the country. Education is on the list of the Indian Constitution, but the state government<\/a> plays an important role in the development of education,<\/a> especially in primary and secondary education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
