It stands in contrast with the passive learning process, which simply involves taking in the information without being a part of the learning process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New-age technologies like <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.teachmint.com\/virtual-classrooms\/\">virtual classrooms<\/a> and virtual learning environments have allowed learners to undertake active learning. Virtual classes have allowed students to actively engage in the learning process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Class discussions, role-playing, case studies, and group projects are all part of active learning. In these, students are active participants in the learning process compared to the traditional way, where teachers provide information orally or in written form.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This learning allows the engagement of students while stimulating their <a href=\"http:https:\/\/www.teachmint.com\/glossary\/c\/constructivism\/\">cognitive <\/a>ability. They can become a part of the process by reading, writing, or simply discussing the project at hand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the bigger picture, it is more about developing skills in the students by allowing higher-level thinking. It is not about lecture-based classes and learning. This type of learning allows room for dialogue rather than the teacher delivering a monologue.
