What is the REET Exam?

REET exam, or Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers, is a state-level examination conducted every year by the Board of Secondary Education of Rajasthan state. The exam sees a large number of candidates every year aspiring to become a Grade III Teacher (TGT) in thousands of schools in the state of Rajasthan. 

The exam conducting body always specifies the number of vacancies every year for Level I and Level II Third Grade Teachers in the schools of Rajasthan. Level I Third Grade Teachers are required to teach classes 1 to 5 in schools. Whereas Level II teachers will be teaching classes 6 to 8.

REET Exam Eligibility Criteria 

Before filling out the application form for appearing for the REET exam, all candidates should know about the eligibility criteria. 

The eligibility criteria are different for candidates based on which level of teacher they aspire to become. 

REET exam eligibility criteria for Level I TGT based on educational qualification:

  • Candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% marks in class 12th board or an equivalent examination. These candidates should have either completed a two years’ Diploma in Elementary Education or should be in the second year of examination. They can apply as candidates appearing for that degree.
  • Candidates who have passed their Senior Secondary by scoring a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates having a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) can also apply for the REET exam.
  • Candidates having completed a two years’ Diploma in Special Education and a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in their Senior Secondary examination are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates having completed their Graduation and having a two years’ Diploma in Elementary Education are also eligible to apply.

Level II Third Grade Teachers eligibility criteria based on educational qualification:

  • Candidates must have graduated with a two year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Candidates must have graduated with at least 50% and passed the first year of  B.Ed (Bachelors of Education) or must be appearing in the final year of Bachelor in Education.
  • Candidates must have passed their 12th standard, scoring a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. They have either passed or are appearing in the final year of Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. 
  • Candidates having completed their 12th standard board exams with the required minimum of 50% aggregate marks and having passed or appearing in the final year of Bachelor’s degree in BA.B.Ed/ BSc.B.Ed are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must have completed Graduation with 50% marks and passed or must be appearing in the first year of B.Ed Special Education. 

REET Upper Age Limit

Only Indian citizens above the age of 18 years can appear for the REET exam. There is no clearly specified upper age limit for taking the exam. 

REET Exam – Additional Information

  • The exam form is made available on the official website and should be filled online.
  • The exam is only conducted offline in different districts of Rajasthan state.
  • The exam is conducted for a duration of 2 hrs 30 mins.
  • There are two different types of papers: one paper for those aspiring to become a Level I teacher and one paper for those aspiring to become a Level II teacher. 
  • It is possible to take both exams, given that the candidate meets all eligibility criteria for both the exams. 
  • The paper is conducted in two languages: Hindi and English. 

REET Exam Syllabus

The syllabus also differs for both levels. 

The syllabus for Level I Third Grade Teachers includes the following:

  • Compulsory section on Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Language I: One out of Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Sindhi, Punjabi, and Urdu
  • Language II: One out of the remaining options as provided in the Language I section.
  • Mathematics
  • Environmental Sciences 

The syllabus for Level II Third Grade Teachers:

  • Compulsory section on Child Development and Pedagogy
  • Language I: One out of Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Gujarati, Sindhi, Punjabi, and Urdu
  • Language II: One out of the remaining options as provided in the Language I section.
  • Mathematics and Science
  • Social Studies or Social Science 

Although the initial few sections appear to be the same for both Level I and Level II papers, the Level II syllabus requires the candidates to go deeper into the subject as compared to the syllabus for Level I. 

Documents Required 

On the day of the REET exam, all candidates must carry one ID proof along with their REET exam Admit Card. The admit card is released on the official website a few days before the exam. This admit card needs to be downloaded, printed, and carried (hard copy) on the exam day. 

REET Exam Result

The exam result is usually declared after two months of the exam. The result is declared based on the cut-off marks set every year. The cut-off marks depend on various factors like, number of candidates appearing in a particular year, number of posts or vacancies available, and marks obtained by the candidates. 

REET Exam Tips

  • Plan your study schedule in advance and stick to it. Make sure that your schedule leaves you with enough time to revise and practice besides learning new topics. 
  • When the exam date is nearing, avoid picking up new material; only revise and perfect your previously studied material. Picking up a new book when the exam is around the corner can cause last-minute panic.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep you mentally and physically strong.
  • Take some practice tests or mock tests based on the exam syllabus and pattern. Try to complete them in the duration set for the REET exam. 
  • Lastly, keep a positive attitude and believe that you can really crack the exam with a great score!
