KTET Level 1 And Level 2

The Preeksha Bhavan, Kerala, conducts the KTET-Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test twice a year. The selection of candidates possessing the required aptitude and knowledge to teach both lower primary, upper primary, and high school students is the main motive of this examination.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has formed the guidelines to conduct this examination according to the National Council for teachers Education/ Department of General education/ Government of Kerala.

Separate tests are conducted to select the teachers for different levels. The levels are categorized based on the student groups the chosen candidate will be going to teach. The main website of KTET mentions four levels, among which KTET level 1 and level 2 have to deal with the candidates who want to work as primary teachers. In this article, we have provided information about KTET level 1 and level 2.

Level 1 of KTET Examination

The level 1 examination is for the selection of teachers who will teach for the lower primary students. The lower primary section includes the students of classes 1 to 5. The students will be of the age group 6 years to 11 years in the lower primary category. The students of this category have to be converted into potential future learners and hence need a teacher who teaches with utmost patience and interest. That is why the section is considered a different level.

The KTET level 1 examination syllabus is designed according to the requirements of the job and is mentioned below.

Child Development and Pedology: The syllabus includes child development and pedology of 6-11 years. Pedology improves the quality of both the teacher’s teaching methods and the learning capacity of the students. Teachers who have studied pedology will help the students grasp the deeper aspects of the subject and make them understand the fundamental material. This is included in the syllabus to make sure that the candidate has acquired all these skills.

There will be 30 questions from this section, which will be in the format of multiple-choice questions and will carry one mark each.

Mathematics: Mathematics is an elementary and compulsory subject at the primary level. Hence, teaching mathematics without making them go through any stress and phobia becomes the essential requirement of a lower primary teacher. So the teacher is expected to have a thorough knowledge and grip on the subject. To test the knowledge, Mathematics is included as one of the subjects in the section.

Mathematics also has 30 multiple choice questions of one mark each.

Environmental Studies: Environmental Studies are taught to the students as an introductory subject that gets converted into science in higher classes. Hence examiners also have dedicated a paper to Environmental Studies, which contains 30 questions of one mark each.

Language 1: This paper includes the questions from the language of your choice among the three they have provided. The candidate is free to choose a language among these three:

Malayalam, Tamil, or Kannada. Language has the same weightage as the other two papers.

Language 2: Here, candidates have to choose between English and Arabic. Even this paper contains 30 questions for 30 marks.

In total, level 1 contains 150 questions for 150 marks.

Level 2 of KTET Examination

Level 2 is the examination for the candidates who aspire to be the teachers of higher primary classes. The higher primary section has students from the 5th to 8th standard, with students between 11 years to 14 years. The requirements of a teacher allotted for teaching for these students are completely different from those of the lower primary teachers. These people have to be more enthusiastic and motivating for the students. Hence this is classified under the second level.

Syllabus of the Level 2 Examination:

Child Development and Pedagogy of the Age Group 11 to 14 years: As discussed above, the subject is essential to increase the teacher’s effectiveness. This paper tests the capacity of the teacher to teach the students of the age mentioned earlier. Thirty questions of one mark will appear in this section.

Science and Mathematics/ Social Science: Students get into social science, science, and mathematics in the upper primary classes. A teacher who wishes to teach a subject out of these should choose that in this section and answer 60 questions for 60 marks.

Language 1: This level offers four languages, Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, and English, in this section, and the candidate can choose among them. Like all other subjects, this also contains questions for 30 marks.

Language 2: Language 2 has much more options to choose from than the previous section. Here candidates can choose among Malayalam, English, Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, and Sanskrit and write the exam for 30 marks.
