How to study for KTET

The KTET, short for Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test, is a mandatory state-level examination conducted twice a year by the Office of the Commissioner for Government Examination and the Kerala State Education Board (KSEB).

The KTET examination helps to check whether the aspiring candidates possess the adequate skills required for handling the difficulties involved in the teaching of the Lower Primary (I-V), the Upper Primary (VI-VIII), and the High School or Secondary (IX-X) classes in various government schools across the state of Kerala.

The Pareeksha Bhavan in Kerala is responsible for organizing the KTET examination following certain rules and regulations put forward by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in Kerala as well as the guidelines implemented by the Government of Kerala, the National Council of Teachers’ Education (NCTE), and the Department of General Education.

The KTET competitive examination is held offline for different selection categories of Teachers:

  • Category I – The Lower Primary Teachers
  • Category II – The Upper Primary Teachers
  • Category III – The High School Teachers
  • Category IV – The Language Teachers for Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit and Arabic, etc., the Specialist Teachers for Art & Craft, and the Physical Education Teachers.

Candidates who will qualify for the KTET exam will receive an eligibility certificate with a lifetime validity period; previously, it was only seven years. With the help of this certificate, all the candidates will be able to apply for the teaching vacancies in the schools of Kerala.

KTET Exam Preparation

Once the candidates successfully submit their KTET Exam 2021-2022 applications, the most important thing for them is to prepare for the KTET syllabus in order to clear the cut-off marks of the examination. Here we have listed some of the most efficient preparation tips to help the candidates clear the KTET exam.

Understanding the Syllabus and Exam Pattern:

To get started with the preparation, candidates must check the syllabus and KTET examination pattern in detail. Going through the exam and syllabus pattern will help the candidates get a clear understanding of all the important subjects, topics, and marking scheme of the exam in accordance with the four-category levels of the KTET exam- Category I, Category II, Category III, and Category IV.

Managing Time Accurately:

Managing time properly is the key to completing the KTET exam. A fixed time limit of 2 hours 30 mins, i.e., 150 minutes, is allotted to each and every candidate appearing for the KTET exams. Even though there is no negative marking in the marking scheme of KTET, candidates are required to develop an efficient command over their speed and accuracy in order to complete the whole paper within the given time limit.

The candidates are advised to prepare a timetable or schedule covering all the important topics of the KTET syllabus following the KTET duration. The more disciplined and sincere the candidates are towards their studies and preparation, the more accurately they will be able to manage their time by avoiding chaos and distraction.

Possessing Good Study Materials:

Studying and referring to the best possible relevant study materials is another important thing to keep in mind for the candidates preparing for the KTET examination.

It is advised to candidates that they should select only the most up-to-date and limited study materials like guide books, sample papers, reference books, etc., according to the latest exam pattern and syllabus for KTET 2021-2022. Buying and referring to too many study materials is simply a waste of money and time.

Regularly Practicing Mock Tests:

KTET aspirants must dedicate some time during their preparation days to practice and solve mock tests on a regular basis. It is recommended that the candidates collect the previous year’s question papers, sample papers, and other practice test papers made explicitly for the KTET exam preparation.

Solving them will not only help the aspirants get acquainted with the types of questions frequently asked in the KTET exams but also help them get accustomed to the time duration of the examination as well.

Doing Revisions:

Candidates must avoid last-minute preparations at all costs. Do not wait for the official date of notification to start deeply studying the KTET syllabus and topics. It is suggested that all aspirants must devote a few days prior to their examination only to revise the important topics for the KTET exams.

What they can do is write short notes for all the crucial topics in advance so that they can easily refer to them before appearing for the KTET examination. Through these short notes, applicants can quickly do the necessary revision on the desired subject.

Properly attending to Mental and Physical Health:

Last but definitely not least, candidates preparing for KTET must give time to their mental and physical health and well-being. In order to maintain a proper and healthy diet plan, the aspirants must:

  • Drink lots of water
  • Exercise
  • Eat properly
  • Relax
  • Meditate
  • Sleep

Candidates must know that a healthy body and mind are of extreme importance in order to succeed in the KTET exam.

With everything said, candidates appearing for KTET must remember that the valuation scheme of KTET examinations allows no negative marking for any wrongly attempted question.

Thus, the KTET aspirants can attempt all questions to increase their chances of scoring maximum correct answers in the KTET main exam papers. Do not forget to carry your admit card, ID proof, and other necessary stationery materials to the exam center on the official day of the KTET exam.
