The Ministry of Education has announced a National Educational Alliance for Technology, popularly referred to by its more commonly used acronym NEAT, as a Public-Private partnership model pr PPP model between the Government and the Education Technology companies of India. The acting arm of the government, in this case, is its implementing agency the All India Council for Technical Education, the AICTE. Companies are invited to show their products on a National Portal via an open invitation and screening, which was developed for the learners, who may procure them on the basis of their requirements. NEAT registration needs to take place for this to happen. The idea behind NEAT and NEAT registration is to bring the best technological products in the field of education pedagogy under a single platform for the subsequent convenience of learners. Technology Products that use Artificial Intelligence for customized learning or e-content in certain niche areas having highly employable skills can be identified for showcasing on this National portal.
The AICTE NEAT scheme also includes free seats for existing students from economically weaker sections of society. The distribution of free seats will be done through the NEAT portal, on the basis of student information that is shared by the respective educational institutions. However, during the initial phase of the AICTE NEAT scheme, the portal will be launched as a pilot phase only in AICTE approved Government Colleges in India.
