Everything You Need to Know About KTET JRF

Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test, also known as KTET JRF, is a state-level exam conducted twice every year by Pareeksha Bhavan, Kerala. It tests aspirants’ skills and abilities to teach in Lower Primary, Upper Primary, and High School classes in the government schools of Kerala. Pareeksha Bhavan conducts the KTET JRF exam as per the rules and regulations directed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Kerala, along with guidelines laid down by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)/ Department of General Education/Government of Kerala.

According to the official KTET website, Separate written exams are conducted to recruit teachers for the following categories: 

  • Category 1 – Lower Primary classes
  • Category 2 – Upper Primary classes
  • Category 3 – High School classes
  • Category 4 – Language Teachers – Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic, Urdu (up to Upper Primary Classes), Specialist Teachers (Art & Craft), and Physical Education teachers

KTET Application Fee

Every candidate needs to pay an application fee to complete their KTET JRF application. The application fees vary from candidate to candidate based on the category they belong to. Students can pay the application fee online only. All the interested and eligible candidates may visit the official KTET website to apply for the exam.

Application fees based on the categories:

  • General/ OBC- INR 500 
  • SC/ ST – INR 250 

Eligibility Criteria For KTET JRF 2021

To be eligible for appearing in any KTET Category exam: Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, and Category 4, aspirants need to fulfill some eligibility criteria. Though you can find these criteria on the official KTET website, we have explained them below in detail.

KTET Eligibility Criteria for Category 1 Paper

Aspirants fulfill the KTET eligibility criteria if they have any of the educational qualifications stated below:

  • Passed senior secondary/high school or (or equivalent) with a minimum of 45% and a Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) of two years conducted by the Board of Examination, Govt. of Kerala.

OR

  • Qualified 10+2 (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 45% marks and Elementary Education diploma of 2-year following NCTE Regulations 2002.

OR

  • Passed senior secondary (or its equivalent) with 50% marks and Bachelor of Elementary Education of 4 years.

OR

  • Qualified 10+2 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and Education (Special Education) Diploma of 2 years.

Note: For candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently Abled categories, there is a relaxation of 5 percent in qualifying marks. As for OBC & OEC candidates, a relaxation of 3 percent in qualifying marks is given.

KTET Eligibility Criteria for Category 2 Paper

Aspirants fulfill the KTET eligibility criteria if they have any of the educational qualifications stated below:

  • Must have completed BA/BSc/BCom and Diploma in Elementary Education/Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) of 2 years conducted by Board of Examination, Govt. of Kerala or its equivalent.

OR

  • Must have a degree in BA/BSc/BCom with a minimum of 45% and Bachelor in Education of one year per NCTE regulations issued from time to time in this regard.

OR

  • Passed Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary with a minimum of 50% marks and Bachelor in Elementary Education of 4 years.

OR

  • Passed Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary with a minimum of 50% and BA/B.Sc.Ed or BA Ed or B.Sc.Ed of 4 years.

Note: For candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently Abled categories, there is a relaxation of 5 percent in qualifying marks. As for OBC & OEC candidates, a relaxation of 3 percent in qualifying marks is given.

KTET Eligibility Criteria for Category 3 Paper

Aspirants fulfill the KTET eligibility criteria if they have any of the educational qualifications stated below:

  • Must have a BA/BSc/BCom degree with a minimum of 45% passing marks and completed B.Ed. In the chosen subject from any recognized University in Kerala or other Universities.

OR

  • Must have an M.Sc Ed. Degree in the subject concerned (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology) with a minimum of 50% marks from any of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT. For Botany and Zoology subjects, candidates must have an MSc Degree in Life Science with a minimum of 50% marks from any of the Regional Institutes of Education to be eligible to apply.

OR

  • Students with a BA degree or equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks and who qualified in LTTC.

Note: For candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently Abled categories, there is a relaxation of 5 percent in qualifying marks. As for OBC & OEC candidates, a relaxation of 3 percent in qualifying marks is given.

KTET 2021 Eligibility Criteria for Category 4 Paper

Aspirants must have the required qualifications for the post of Language Teachers of Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic, and Urdu to teach Upper Primary level classes. Specialist teachers & Physical Education teachers must fulfill the criteria of Chapter XXXI of KERALA EDUCATION ACT AND RULES to be eligible to apply for the KTET category four paper.

KTET Syllabus For All The Categories

The KTET syllabus differs for all four categories. For the ease of students, we have mentioned below the syllabus for all four KTET papers.

Syllabus For Category 1: 

Child Development and Pedagogy (concerning age group 6 – 11), Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Language I –Tamil/ Malayalam/ Kannada, and Language II – English/ Arabic.

Syllabus For Category 2: 

Child Development and Pedagogy (concerning the age group 11-14), Mathematics/ Social Science, Language I- Kannada/ English/Malayalam/Tamil, and Language II – Malayalam/ English/ Hindi / Sanskrit, / Arabic/ Urdu.

Syllabus For Category 3: 

Adolescent Psychology, Theories of Learning and Teaching Aptitude, Language: Malayalam/ Tamil/ English/Kannada, and Subject-specific areas (Content & Pedagogy).

Syllabus For Category 4: 

Adolescent Psychology, Theories of Learning and Teaching Aptitude, Language: Malayalam/ Kannada/English/ Tamil, and Subject-specific papers (Content & Pedagogy).
