Karnataka, like other states, conducts state teacher qualification exams, and it is called Karnataka TET or KARTET. Exams are administered at the central reception desk in Karnataka. The main purpose of the examination is to determine the qualifications of candidates who wish to work as teachers in various public schools in Karnataka.

The exam consists of two tasks. Exam I is for those applying for a lower elementary teaching qualification, and the second is for those seeking a primary teaching qualification. Qualified KARTET candidates will be issued a Certificate of Conformity valid for up to 7 years.

Minimum Qualifications for Teacher for Classes I-V Primary Stage (Paper – I):
PUC/Senior Secondary or its equivalent having a minimum of 50% marks. Should have passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in elementary education OR PUC/Senior Secondary (or it is equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks. He/she should have passed or be appearing in the final year of four-year B.El.Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and passed or appearing within the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
OR
B.A. or B.Sc in Graduation and passed or appearing within the final year of 2-year Diploma in elementary education.
Minimum Qualifications for Teacher for Classes VI-VIII: Elementary Stage (Paper-II)
B.A./B.Sc for Graduation. The candidate should be passed or appearing within the final year of the two-year Diploma in Education.
OR
B.A / B.Sc Graduation with 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in B.Ed. OR PUC / Senior Secondary or its equivalent having 50% marks. Should have passed or appearing in the final year of four-year B.El.Ed.
OR
PUC or Senior Secondary having a minimum of 50% marks and passed or appearing within the final year of four-year B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.
OR
B.A. or B.Sc Graduation with a minimum of 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed., which is Special Education.
Minimum Qualifications for Teacher for Classes I – VIII Elementary Stage (Paper – I and II):
PUC/Senior Secondary (or equivalent), with a grade of 50%, passed or passed the last year of 4-year-old B.El.Ed. Also B.A. or B.Sc degree. Candidates must pass or appear within the final year of their two-year diploma in education.
Relaxation & Certificate Details:
Candidates in reserved categories such as SC/ST/CI/Undersable are allowed up to 5% relaxation within the qualification grade within the minimum training qualifications of the qualification.
Teacher Training Courses: For the purposes of this communication, only diploma/teacher training courses approved by the National Council for Teacher Training (NCTE) can be considered. However, for pedagogical diplomas (special education) and B.ED (special education), only courses approved by the Indian Rehabilitation Council (RCI) can be considered.
Education: D.Ed (Special Education) or qualified candidates are required to complete a 6-month special education program approved by NCTE after the appointment. These qualifications apply to teachers of language, social/science, mathematics, science, etc. For teachers in the education system, the minimum qualification criteria for teachers stipulated in the NCTE Ordinance (Amendment) of November 3, 2001, apply.
Admission standards set by the state government and other school administrations apply until NCTE defines minimum qualifications for teachers in arts education, crafts education, home sciences, labor education, etc. The candidates appearing in the last year, such as a Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Education, are tentatively accepted, and the KARTET certificate is valid only if they pass these exams. Candidates who do not fulfil the above KARTET Eligibility Criteria are not eligible to take the Karnataka Teacher Qualification Exam.
