NIOS

NIOS or we can say the national institute of open schooling is an open school to meet the needs of a different group of students. It is there till the pre-graduation level. It was started as a program with flexibility in learning methods by the Central Board of Education (CBSE) in 1979. In 1986, the National Education Policy recommended strengthening the open school system. The expansion of the advanced open schooling system started after that at the secondary level. After this, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the government of India established the National Open Schools (NOS) in November 1989. The CBSE Open Schools project was merged with the NOS to improve the existing learning system. The  National Open School (NOS) was granted the right to register, inspect and issue certificates to enroll students. NIOS was not the name from the beginning of this program, it was NOS. Later the Ministry of Education (MOE) changed the name of the organization from the National Open Schools (NOS) to the National Institute of Open Schools in 2002. The mission of training the students in the best way continued from 2002. The mission also involved that there should be more equality in the society, every student should be treated equally and all should receive an education. The National Institute of Open Education (NIOS) creates opportunities for interested students by offering them various courses/programs through Distance and Open Learning mode. It operates through a network of five departments, it is also the largest open education system in the world.
