MTech

MTech is a two-year postgraduate program for engineering students. Students become an expert in their chosen field after completing their postgraduate studies. They can complete the course in two ways: full-time and part-time.

Most colleges consider GATE as a qualifying exam for MTech admission. However, some colleges and universities also conduct their own entrance exams and interviews.

Advantages

The advantages of pursuing an MTech degree are:

  • Candidates can gain in-depth knowledge in a particular field. Moreover, they learn new skills and have more control over the subject.
  • Candidates can strengthen their professional network during the course.
  • As candidates gain technical knowledge, they may shift to management roles for career growth.

Eligibility

Only a few seats are available in the top engineering colleges for an MTech degree. Therefore, colleges specify some requirements to shortlist students for this degree.

The eligibility criteria for Master of Technology include:

  • Candidates must have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Candidates must have scored more than or equal to the minimum qualifying marks.
  • Candidates with Masters of Science degrees can also pursue Masters of Technology.

However, candidates should understand that the eligibility criteria differ for different institutions.

Eligibility criteria for the part-time program in Masters of Technology

  • Candidates must have scored a minimum of 55% marks in the B.Tech/B.E program.
  • Candidates must have gained at least two years of work experience in their respective fields. They may work in a recognized firm, industry, research, or government organization.

However, candidates must check the eligibility criteria of their shortlisted colleges before applying for the part-time program in Masters of Technology.
