Mid-day Meal Program

The government runs the mid-day meal program for government school students.  It guarantees a meal once a day to the juniors and middle school children affiliated with the government or government-aided institutions.

According to the NEP (New Education Policy 2020), a supplementary breakfast has been added to this scheme. It has its operation in the majority of the states of India. The program ensures that the students get enough nutrition and that they have ample enough strength to focus on studies and lessons. There are a lot of students and kids who don’t have access to even one square meal a day.

The National Programme of Mid Day Meal, earlier known as The National Programme on Nutritional Support to Primary Education (NP-NSPE), was newly introduced in 1995.  It ensures that every child gets 100 grams of ration per day.

The mid-day meal program aims to pull out the starvation among the children. It also focuses on student’s attendance.  It results in a higher literacy rate for the citizens of India.

Setting this as a part of the curriculum gained considerable appreciation from different parts of the world. It is now the world’s largest meal scheme. The meal is given to every single child of the class from 1st to 8th.

Nowadays, many feeder schools have been introduced. They provide mid-day meals to specific class students.
