Chemistry Lab

A chemistry lab is a place where experiments related to chemistry are conducted. They are usually set up at schools and universities to teach students the different types of chemical reactions, how chemicals interact with each other, and the energy involved in the same. Most chemistry labs at schools adhere to a certain pattern of setting up everything. This is to ensure uniformity and easy access to everything the students need while performing experiments on their own. Here are a few commonalities you will see at every chemistry lab. • Most chemistry labs for students do not have chairs and have a common counter, tiled with slate or marble tiles, for the students to perform experiments on.
  • The counters have sinks installed in them with a water supply so that the students can use the water for experiments as well as for cleaning the apparatus they use.
  • The chemicals the student need in order to perform the most basic experiments are placed right in front of them on top of a shelf dedicated specifically for that reason. These chemicals generally include concentrated sulphuric acid, concentrated hydrochloric acid, concentrated nitric acid, dilute sulphuric acid, dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute nitric acid, ammonium hydroxide, and acetic acid among others.
  • There will be a test tube stand where the students can place their test tubes. The test tubes will be provided by the school or university. Usually, a total of 3 test tubes is enough to conduct all the experiments done at school.
  • There will be a shelf that is placed away from the counters. This shelf houses all the reagents that are seldom used by the students but are required all the same, such as potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide, potassium iodide, methanol, etc.

A chemistry lab is quite important because it helps students visualize what they learn in theory and witness firsthand what they learn as a chemical equation.
