What is the Structure of ASRB?

The ASRB comprises of the:

  • Chairman
  • Two members of the cadre of Secretary or a Special Secretary to the Govt of India.

The appointment to the ASRB is conducted by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet of India. They can hold their position for five years or till they attain 65 years of age. ASRB falls under the Department of Agriculture Research and Education under the Ministry of Agriculture Govt of India. Those who act as the supporting staff come from ICAR on a short-term basis.

How to Get an ASRB Certificate?

The ASRB certificate entails completing the ASRB NET (National Eligibility Test), conducted by ASRB yearly. It is also known as ICAR NET (Indian Council of Agriculture Research NET). The purpose of this exam is the recruitment of Lecturers or Assistant Professors for agricultural universities across the country. As this exam is qualifying in nature, applicants can apply for vacancies offered by different agricultural universities.

Eligibility Criteria for ASRB Certificate

The following criteria outlines the requirements for eligibility when applying for an ASRB certificate:

  • Educational qualification:

The candidate must have a graduate degree from a recognized University, with more than 55% marks in the final degree examination. They must also know how to function a computer.

  • Age limit:

The candidate should be at least 21 years and under 30 years on the closing date of the online registration of the application.

  • Nationality:

The candidate must be a citizen of India, Bhutan, or Nepal. 

The candidate can be a Tibetan refugee or an Indian immigrant from Pakistan, Burma, or Sri Lanka. They can be an Indian immigrant from certain East African countries or Vietnam. 

These Indian immigrants must have the intention to reside in India permanently.

ASRB Recruitment Procedure

The application process for the ASRB certificate entails the following steps:

Step 1

Candidates must apply online using the online application form link, available on the official website. The page will contain a registration link, where you can select the post you want to apply for. You can fill in all your personal and contact details here, along with other mandatory fields. Save your User ID and password and complete the ASRB AO application form.

Step 2

You will have to pay the application fee of Rs. 500/- and download a copy of your submitted application form. Candidates who are Women/SC/ST/PwD need to pay Rs. 20/-.

Step 3

Those who are successfully registered can then download their ASRB NET admit card online.

Step 4

You will have to sit for the exam. It is conducted online. 150 questions are asked with a time duration of 120 minutes. Incorrect answers will result in a deduction of 1/3 mark. The questions depend on the subject of your choice. There is a specified syllabus for each discipline of Master’s level. It is your choice to give the exam either in English or Hindi.

Step 5

Candidates who successfully secure cut-off marks will become eligible to apply for Lecturer or Assistant Professor posts in different agricultural universities.

Validity of the ASRB Certificate

It is of lifetime validity and you will receive the certificate within a month of clearing the exam.

  • Agricultural biotechnology
  • Agricultural entomology
