Tertiary Education

Tertiary education refers to higher secondary education or third level education. It is a level of education that comes after secondary education. According to the World Bank, education received from universities, trade schools and colleges can be referred to as tertiary education.

When a person opts for tertiary education, at the completion of the same, they usually qualify through the receipt of a certificate, diploma, or an academic degree. This education is non-mandatory, and individuals usually opt for continuing education to gain specialisation in their subject of interest.

Many such education institutes also offer distance learning courses to support the lifestyles of working students.

According to UNESCO, this education can be defined as learning endeavors in specialized fields as the higher a grade is, the more specialized the curriculum gets. It is often said/implied that graduates of the said education can have perspectives and worldviews that may differ vastly as compared to non-graduates.

Research has shown that graduates may have more liberal mindsets as compared to non-graduates as they are more exposed to cultural and ethnic diversity. Further, they are also known to express more accepting views of minor communities. This education is important as it allows the students to deal with a wide variety of challenges, changes, and advancements that they may come across.
